 Only women who are physically able to give birth should call themselves a mother. Guess she didn't learn that in her homeschooling days.

Well actually, as with most children schooled in the U.S. these days, she was told she "could be anything you want", even a mommy! What's truly sad is that when she was "home schooled" in kindergarten she missed out on the interaction children of that age normally have and had to rely on two responsible adults for observation and guidance. Good job mom and dad.

And in about 7 years there will be an article about Sadie wanting the government to pay for her reassignment surgery. She'll be heartbroken when she finds out she can't really have kids like mom and dad taught her.

From looking at the family photos, I don't think she's in a mom and dad situation. Looks like just mom, or maybe at most, mom and mom.

I have no idea what the motive of the parents is in this case

How about getting her kid all over the internet and in news magazines? And don't try to tell me parents don't do that.

A whole lot of judging in this post. Her being home schooled in no way indicates that she didn't have interaction with other children. My reply was sarcastic. Unfortunately, your reply seems to be your genuine feelings. You don't know what her upbringing was like, and you don't know that she doesn't know she can't physically have a child.

Lots of assumptions from one small article about the kid.

And already a rant about the government paying for things!

Amazing.

Entirely possible. But I won't judge the little girl for the actions of her misguided parents, if that's the case.

She did write the letter to Obama. He loves having the govt. pay for things.

Because by the time she's old enough for surgery, if she wants it, Obama will definitely still be President.

I'm not judging the little boy at all.

Well I shouldn't have to pay Social Security taxes then, because Roosevelt is no longer president.

You're right, I am assuming that her home schooling was based on a home based ciriculum taught by either one or both parents. And, unless they have a program accredited by their state, she would be the only one in the class thus there would be no interaction with other children during the school day from kindergarten until the fifth grade. Sure she could play with kids after lessons but that was not what I was talking about. And I don't know what her upbring was like but I know that homseschooling does not provide the same enviornment as a regular school setting. The ciriculum is pretty loose. And I was being sarcastic as well.

And the government issue, sarcasim based on other lawsuits filed in the U.S. based the "medical necessity" of reassignment surgery.

No it doesn't. But I don't like the stereotype that homeschooled children are socially awkward and mentally behind regular school students. I am pretty sure that by 11, Sadie knows what body parts she has and what they do.

 If you say so.

OK, let me spell it out for you. Presidents implement policies that last longer than their time in office. Hence the social security reference.

What about at age 5?

I got it, I thought it was a "silly" comparison.

Obama likes giving out free things, so in 7 years, this girl will want the government to pay for a surgery she may or may not even want.

That's the statement that was made, and the comment was ridiculous.

What about at age 5?

At age 5, it has little to do with body parts and more to do with simply how they feel.

At age 5, did she want to be a mother? I don't know. Maybe. But at age 11, she should know what she has and what it does.

To imply that because she was homeschooled, she still believes that she can physically have a child doesn't make sense. It doesn't even say that. She just wants to be a mother. Plenty of women grow up to be mothers without physically giving birth. I'm not sure why this comment is being harped on so much.
