Working before Green Card arrives but after approval????

Just wondering what the deal is....I have had the approval email and I am waiting for the green card/welcome letter to arrive. Can I start employment before the green card arrives? Just wondering because I've been offered a job in a store (by a friend) and i'm not sure what the deal is???

09/20/05 NOA1 received
11/22/05 NOA2 received (65 days)
12/05/05 NVC received application! (say 2-4 week wait)
12/13/05 Found out forms were sent to London on 12/08/05!
12/20/05 Packet 3 received!
01/11/06 Medical - Knightsbridge London
01/18/06 Sent back packet 3!
02/15/06 Received packet 4!

02/13/06 INTERVIEW DATE 03/22/06 AT 10.30AM!! - APPROVED

Married July 29th 2006!!

08/17/2006 Filed for AOS and EAD
08/26/2006 NOA1 received for both (dated 08/24/06)
09/06/2006 RFE email.....not sure what for yet!
9/07/2006 Biometrics completed
10/13/2006 Transferred to CSC!!
11/02/2006 Approval email received!!
11/08/2006 Welcome to USA letter arrives!

11/13/2006 GREEN CARD RECEIVED - NO MISTAKES!!!!

06/06/08 Family moved back to UK!!

Husband gained UK citizenship September 2015

06/27/2016 I-130 Spousal Visa application sent to London Embassy

Ask your friend how concerned she is about filling in form I-9 and then it's up to her.

You should be able to start work. If a person is employment authorized, and you are now that you're an LPR, and you do not have the required documentation, you have 3 days to show your employer that you've applied for the required documentation and 90 days to show your employer the required documentation itself.

Odds are that your Green Card will arrive within 90 days.

Don't worry it will arrive after 5 days, I received mine after 4 days that i received the email. After that go to SSA office to update your card.

I started to find a job before my card arrived though.

july 21 - sent it to chicago

July 31 - receipt number

August 3 - Noa 2

August 16 - biometrics

August 29 - transfered to Vermont Service Center

August 30 to October 4 - Never touched

October 5 - recieved my case

October 6 - touched and received email from CRIS THAT they have recieved my case for processing. Thanks !

october 7 - touched! gosh! they are working with my case now!!!

october 9 - touched again almost everyday they touched it!

october 13 - touched again

October 16 - touched

October 26 - touched again after 10 days..

October 26 - at 5:20 pm I received a letter from CRIS that my case was approved and they ordered my new card.

October 27 - touched and received email that they sent the welcome letter hhehehehe

October 28 - sent welcome notice

October 30 - touched

October 31 - touched

October 31 - no welcome notice...but GREEN CARD IS HERE!!![/color]

( in my Green Card it says that I am legal resident here in the US starting October 23, 2006)

PS: don't go to update your SS card until you have your Green Card. And don't surrender your old SS card! I think Mike says 'say the dog ate it'.
