NYC Soda ban

15 members have voted

  1. 1. What do you think of the Soda ban in New York City that fines any business that sells a soft drink over 16 Oz. ?

    • That's F*ing crazy, nanny Bloomberg has lost his mind
    • May be the people of New York City WANTS to be told what they can drink with their meals, like a 3 year old
    • I'm all for it, obesity is rampant in NYC, all New Yorkers are fat.
    • They have sodas larger than 16 ounces?

What do you guys think of this soda ban that's going to take effect in New York City in March. It'll be illegal for any food establishments and food vendors to sell ready to drink sodas larger than 16 Oz. (Except 7-11, they are regulated by the NY State Liquor Authority).

what's next? All new Yorkers must show up in Central Park to do laps? No steaks greater than 4 Oz?

I don't know any New Yorkers who think this is a good idea. Most of them think it's a good idea to require fast food joints to publish calorie counts on their menu, but this is a step too far.

that isnt a law?

i noticed mcdonalds all do it about a year ago

i hate it.

im mildly dyslexic so it makes looking at a menu a complete anxiety attack for me

Yes it's a law. It wasn't until a few years ago. Most people I know in NY like that law but this one is just too much.

this one is ridiculous.

i like to buy a large fruitopia for a buck and drink it over th cours of 24 hours

i thought a soda tax was stupid but its better than this.

i guess they realized people would continue to buy it regardless of a tax. just like smokers.

Topic has been moved from Off Topic to Politics and Religion as it is discussing one of Mayor Bloomberg's public health policies for NYC

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

They've also asked for no assault weapons, no high capacity magazines, background checks for everything, registration, regulation of ammo sales, etc.

Apparently New Yorkers aren't fit to take care of themselves. They need the state to take care of everything for them.

cleary soda inhibits a persons ability to think and results in mass shootings.

I think it's a good idea. If you want more soda, you can buy two. It sends a message that you should not drink soda like you would water, and you have to go out of your way a bit to do so, if that's what you want. NYC childhood obesity rates have gone down, unlike the rest of the country. Something is working. People didn't like the trans-fat ban either but now no one cares.

I don't care if they ban sodas or not, but they really should do some thing about the HFCS they load soda's up with. A lot of people don't realize that the use of this cheap, addictive, tax payer subsidized toxic sweetener is one of the bigger culprits behind the obesity epidemic thats going on in this country.

I haven't had a soda in years, but I think adults can make that decision for themselves. The average American consumes over 100 pounds of sugar a year and soda is a big part of that. That much sugar is an epidemiological nightmare in progress and that fact alone is enough for me not to drink it. Go back a few hundred years and people did not consume that much sugar in a lifetime.

One ban I am in favor of is when they ban sodas in elementary schools. It's one thing if adults want to consume them, but marketing this cheap addictive toxic ####### to young kids who may not know any better is completely different.
