all you have to do is ask him to stay and... he will. Just one rule. No sex.

so he's an entirely new breed of man..interesting..

The Soviets didn't do it.

They had women serve in home guard militia units and fill the lines once they were depleted of men. They didn't have front line combat troops that were women until they needed them. They also took kids and old folks, just like every country on earth. And it didn't work out so well for the women. Many were killed. Many were raped. And almost every single one of them was relegated to a support role as soon as men could step in and take their place.

What we're trying to do here is say the women are exactly like the men and just as capable. They are. They can carry a rifle and die like any man. But as the Soviets found out - just as we soon will - the value of human life in your society as a whole is changed once your women are sent to fight. In trying to be "special" our women will learn they're just as worthless as everyone else.

Thats what I wanted to hear.

There is an old saying - Men experience death and pain in battle because they don't have to have children.

i'm five foot tall just barely. i've never been issued a personal tall man to fetch things for me whenever needed. that would be on the side of awesome though, where can i apply?

I rely on my short wive to get stuff out of the lower cabinets. It is very handy.

I can't wait to see video of the artillery women loading 100lb shells into the field pieces.

question smoke, ric flair..

why do you think a woman is not capable of deciding for herself if she wants to serve in combat?

if women are asking for the opportunity to fight/die for their country - who the hell are you to decide she's misinformed in her desire and or ability?

excuse me? if you'd read what i posted. you'd know i didn't say they didn't have the ability or the 'properly informed' desire to serve on the front lines. i never said it was my decision or even my business. i said 'i think its a terrible idea' and i stated why i think so 'the potential treatment of a female pow'.

If by "arena" you mean combat, I have been. And I think women who really want to be in direct combat jobs should be allowed to serve that way. And I would have no problem serving with a woman on my left or right in combat too. It should always be voluntary though.

If you had ever been in the arena you would know why it's not a good idea.

Did your "combat" require lifting and walking with a heavy pack for long periods of time and/or sitting outside a climate controlled atmosphere?

If not, then your "combat" was probably not in the same arena as we can expect these ladies who are going to be 11Bs or 0800s. Not dogging your service, just saying, there's a role for women to play in the military. Combat Infantry aint one of them.

I was an airborne infantry officer in combat in southwest Asia with the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), does that count? I was an enlisted man prior to getting my commission as an officer, so I have seen the Army as both an enlisted soldier as well as an officer. So I think I qualify to give my own personal opinions about women in combat, and I believe they belong if they volunteer to be there as I stated before. And in the years that I was in the military I have seen women outperform men time and time again, mentally and physically. There are and were many so called "men" I would NOT want to be in combat with.

If my wife wanted to be in a combat related job I am confident she would do well also. She has shown me a lot already... She has a lot of determination and stamina that I never thought she would have.
