I am USC, and inviting my inlaw to visit US with B2 visa.

I have read on embassy websites, and it seems Affidavit of Support(I-134) is not a "required" document. I guess it is an optional doc. My question is, would this help for their visa case? They do have some savings in their bank account. but I wonder if the I-134 helps their case, or would it work against their case?

thanks a lot!

The I-134 will not help at all. Your relatives have to qualify on their own merits. There is nothing you can do to help them with visa approval.

Actually the US embassies in China expect to see an invitation letter if the applicant is visiting an individual in the US.

"Invitation Letter: If you are invited to visit someone in the United States, provide information about who is inviting you, purpose of travel, and planned itinerary or schedule."

In the past I have written invitation letters in which I state that I will be financially responsible for the person visiting throughout their visit in the US. I'm happy to email you a sample letter if you like.
