So...for example...someone has a business based on the internet. They move from NY to Alabama to get away from the INSANE costs in the Socialist Republic of New York. And then STILL makes the same $100,000.00 should get taxed MORE for because s/he POCKETS more money per year?
Correct.

Agreed. The entire tax code is based on the premise that those that make more contribute more. Obviously, making 100K in Buttfuck, AL is a heck of a lot more than making 100K in NYC or LA. There should be a some cost-of-living adjustment factor when calculating taxable income. That would hardly be rocket science to figure out and/or administer.

So...someone who CHOOSES to not get financially raped in a place like NYC or LA should be raped by the IRS instead? I have to ask...Why does this make sense?

For the same reason that it makes sense to "rape" the guy (or gal) that makes more money. That is what it essentially is. One person makes 100K in Buttfuck, AL. Another makes 100K in NYC. Effectively, the guy in AL makes 40% or so more than the guy in NYC.

Oh my Lord. I can just imagine an entire State Beuracracy formed for the sole basis of manipulating their cost of living so they can keep people from leaving! Imagine this billboard placed in Utah or Arizona:

Lower your taxes! Move to California!

So we reward those who waste themselves finacially and punish those who use that extra 40% to help grow a stronger economy...right....

The tax rate should be the same no matter what. It's one's choice to live in NYC. If it's too expensive to live there, tough luck.. NYers are the ones who should pay more tax consider how much of everyone else's tax dollars are spent protecting that shithole.. NY's bag the south yet are more than happy to take their tax $$$ to protect their run down city..

Edited by Infidel

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

Didn't read the DHS report on where $$ need to be spent to protect the homeland, did you? The state with the most sites worthy of our tax $$ for protection was no other than Indiana where even a petting zoo became a matter of national security. NYC doesn't have anything worth protecting if one was to go by the DHS.

By the way, how does this work when the cost of living changes so drastically in short periods of time? In the past 4 years the cost of housing in California has gone from "nearly impossible" to afford to "You and your wife better both have 2 jobs, and it wouldn't hurt to see if your brother wants to rent a room".

Does the tax rate for Californians go down during these years? Does it go down even for people who bought their houses 20 years ago? So that we keep our tax revenue base does this mean that the other States' tax rate will have to go up dramatically during these years to make up for the loss? We are a pretty large chunk of the economy out here so the rest of you states better pray something like that doesn't happen!!

I think the actual name of the town in Alabama is "Bumm" not "Butt"

This would be cool though. If a state suffered a lot of job losses one year and subsequently it's housing market tanked, the residents would be slapped with an extra tax burdon because the cost of living would now be technically lower! That'll teach you for losing your job!!!

:energetic:

i'll tell you why, using nancy pelosi's own words in her first statement after dems were declared the majority....."we are ready to govern".....notice she didn't say "we are ready serve". her use of the word govern provides insight into the liberal mindset.....we are ready to govern, i.e. we are ready to tell you how to live your life. hopefully her tenure as majority leader is short-lived.

Okay, these are two very good points. Scratch the cost-of-living adjustment on the taxes.

I think the Bushies have done quite a superb job trying to tell people how to live their lives. We can use a good long break from that nonsense.

Ready to govern means ready to lead. Means ready to re-establish Congressional oversight over the Executive. All the things that were so sorely missing with the Bushies in charge on Capitol Hill. ;)

To burst your bubble, Reinhard.

Basically, vast majority of pubs have been a lot like "baloney-tories" (Canadian tories during long-chin Mulroney's tenure as party leader; basically, gutless--especially when it comes to disagreeing with leader) while dems have been like post-Douglas NDP (grits under Turner would also work, I guess; esentially no direction or focus). So all those factors you mentioned are STILL in absence.
