The court noted that the DEA denied the petition after the Department of Health and Human Services gave the DEA its evaluation that marijuana lacks a currently accepted medical use in the United States.

basically, the department of health and human services can't prove that marijuana is currently accepted for medical use, since marijuana is still illegal for medical use in most areas.

the dea needs doctors to break the law, in order to look at evidence that a substance is worth legal use.

meanwhile, well over a million people are addicted to legally prescribed painkillers in the u.s. and that number isn't even solid, because they don't really have a way to track the addicts..

So far the people that sell Marijuana legally are pretty much mom and pop outfits in California and Colorado etc. However, big pharmaceutical companies sell presrciption painkillers. Which one of those two has more lobbying money to spend in congress? There's your answer.

bingo. it's time for taxpayers to get pissed about their tax money going to arrest and persecute marijuana offenses. if we're going to keep up this sham of a 'war on drugs' at least narrow the drugs down to the dangerous ones. marijuana the same as coke? most americans know that is a total joke.

Unforunately, most folks in congress could give a rats a$$ about it at the moment. They have this gun thing to worry about now, since that's what's on the news everyday. It truly is Idiocracy.

if only we could enforce the gun laws we already have in place and the nra would take back all it's meddling in the BATF and let them do their job..

all comes down to lobbyist money mucking up progress.

I can see the 2014 congressional campaign ad now. "Congressman Smith voted to legalize Marijuana. Mr. Smith is in favor of getting your kids hooked on illegal drugs. Hence Mr. Smith is no better than a drug dealing illegal Mexican." "America, do you really want illegal immigrant Mexican drug dealers running this country?" "Ad paid for by the campaign to elect Mr. Douchebag"

And the people would eat it up.

I like the electoral system in Thailand. Whoever pays the most voters, wins. At least they're upfront about it, and elections are much cheaper. And, just because they paid you doesn't mean you actually have to vote for them. They spent 6+ billion dollars on the last presedential election. That's about $20 a person. I'd rather they just give me the money instead of making me watch and listen to all those ads.

I can buy a small bag of the kill bud for $20.

while this is true, there is a rapidly growing number of parents who have found themselves dealing with life altering charges and fines from their kids. one stupid possession charge can fast track a young adult into years of bs from the courts and puts perfectly normal, hardworking kids/young adults in the same lump as hardened criminals.

Until they see this as some kinda of benefit of re-election, or better yet threat of not get getting re-elected, they wont do anything about it. It's a no win for them. The people most likely to vote for congresspeople that will pass a law like the this, are more than likely gonna vote for them anyway.
