not sure what you are confused about  but you have 10 days to notify the appropriate people of your move... but don't worry if you go over the 10 days a bit....

also make sure you send off the I-865, Sponsor's Notice of Change of Address too , if applicable....

You must send it in within 10 days of your move. Since you have already filed the I-864 I believe you also need to send in form I-865 and also call the 1800 number to report your move.

do you really have to call the 1-800 number? never heard of that before.... I thought you only had to call if you had something pending...

Good question. I remember Peter Miami doing it and saying he was told to call in as well as AR-11 and I-865, at least, I think I do :) I called when I sent mine in but we had not yet done AOS so she told me it wasn't necessary, but I wanted to be safe rather than sorry. It does, however, newly say on the website that if you have a case pending you need to call as well as form AR-11, which is the opposite from how it (appeared) to be when I moved. Since Peter doesn't really have a pending case I dunno if that applies, but personally I'd call just in case.

Oh, and Peter, here is a link to the I-865 (http://www.uscis.gov/files/form/I-865.pdf) and the AR-11 (http://www.uscis.gov/files/form/ar-11.pdf)

Would anyone have that 1-800 number to call to report a change in address? My husband and I just moved as well.

Also, it is better to report the change of address before filing the AOS, right? I'm mailing form AR-11 tomorrow and we hope to file our AOS by the end of the month, would it cause a problem? (This is why I'm hoping to call the 1-800 number as well to avoid any potential address inconsistencies.)

Thanks!

if you have changed your address since arriving on a K1 and before you have filed AOS all you need to do is file AOS in new address there is nothing else to do.... lots of people change address from the address you told them at POE..... as long as you have not yet filed AOS you are ok..

To successfully change your mailing address, from the Dept of Overkill:

-file AR-11 as required by law. This does not change your *mailing* address, but it informs USCIS where you might have been, at one time. Just do it, it's the law.

In the past, our predecessor, the INS, required every alien in the United States to report his or her address annually, in January. This requirement was eliminated in 1980 and annual reporting is no longer required. However, if you are not a U.S. citizen, the law still requires that you report any change of address change within 10 days of the change.

How Do I Report a Change of Address to the USCIS?

AR-11 does not generally generate a NOA receipt. Send by trackable mail.

-Copy of AR-11 to any LOCAL or district office where you might have a file. Include a letter saying: change my mailing address

-copy of AR-11 to any Service Center where you might have a file. Include a letter saying: change my mailing address

-Phone call to 1-800 MisInformation line with the request: please change my mailing address

-file I-865 for USC Sponsor as required by law. You *may* get a NOA for this one and it *might* change the Sponsor's mailing address. Or not.

Sponsor's Notice of Change of Address

-file Change of Address and Mail Forwarding with the USPS. Your USCIS mail *might* get forwarded to your new addy. Or returned to USCIS, you never know. Unfortunate side effect: the PO sells your new address to bulk mailers and you are now back on every junk mailing list under the sun.

Do-it-yourself: Stop junk mail, email and phone calls

http://www.obviously.com/junkmail/

30 days later

-Follow up phone call to 1-800 to see if address change is captured.

-Cross fingers and keep an eye on processing times and when you expect to be contacted. Don't let it go for ages and then say 'dude, where's my case?'.©

shusterman: Understand that there is a difference between reporting your address change, and getting your mailing address changed.

Have you filed anything yet? If not, you have no address change to report.

When you file AOS, use your new address on the form.

Call the 1-800# as little as possible.

Peter: if you have nothing pending, you only need to report your address change (your sponsor too). You do not have a mailing address on file at the moment. When you file a new petition or application, you can use your new address and that effect the mailing address 'change'.

Yes, it is easier to do it before AOS because you don't have to send in the I-865. And Niagaenola, it has been debated before, but it seems pretty clear on the USCIS website, at least to me, that you MUST file for a change of address within 10 days of moving if you are not a US citizen.

"All aliens in the United States who are required to be registered under the law (INA § 262 and 261) must keep the USCIS informed of their changes of address. The only aliens exempt from this requirement are diplomats (visa status A), official government representatives to an international organization (visa status G), and certain nonimmigrants who do not possess a visa and who are in the U.S. for fewer than 30 days (INA § 263)."

As far as I can tell if you are in the US and aren't a US citizen (and a few other things like being diplomat, here less than 30 days) you MUST file a change of address form AR-11 and I-865 (only if you've filed I-864) within 10 days of moving. Putting a new address on your removal of conditions form will change your mailing address, but you're still required to have filed to let them know you're now living somewhere else within 10 days of moving (the AR-11 and stuff won't change your mailing address, it just lets them know where you are).

You are required to file AR-11 when you move - even links to the law are provided above. Also note I-865 - your sponsor needs to file it.

However, since you do not have a pending case with USCIS, calling "help line" is wasting your time. You will provide the latest address when filing for removal of conditions.

If you move, you must report your address change (AR-11). If you don't have anything pending, that's it (plus I-865 for your sponsor).

When you file your I-751, your new mailing address will be used on the form, and that is where your new correspondance goes.
