  1. 1. If you have voted Republican for President at least once in the last 6 election cycles, what should the GOP do about this?

    • The GOP should do nothing. The GOP should not compete for the Hispanic vote. Let the liberals have them.

    • The GOP should move left on social issues to capture some of the vote currently in the hands of the liberal coalition.
    • The GOP should move right on social issues. Not because it will help the GOP win, but because it's the right thing to do. Victory on earth is less important than pleasing God.
    • I have not voted Republican at least once in the last 6 election cycles.

Social Conservatives 'No Mas'

If the NBC/WSJ poll is correct, American opinion on abortion is slowly but powerfully shifting in a pro-choice direction.

Much of this change, the
NBC
/WSJ pollsters say, is coming from African Americans, Latinos and women without college degrees -- all of whom increasingly oppose the [Roe v. Wade] Supreme Court decision being overturned.

If nothing else, this poll should retire forever the "natural conservatives" line about Hispanics advanced by pundits like Charles Krauthammer.

Hispanics … should be a natural Republican constituency: striving immigrant community, religious, Catholic, family-oriented and socially conservative (on abortion, for example).

None of that is true. Pocketbook issues make Hispanics natural Democrats, not natural Republicans. And they are increasingly resistant to GOP culture war themes. Already a majority of Hispanics favor gay marriage. With the shift to a pro-choice position by Hispanic women, Hispanic acculturation to the liberal coalition has become almost perfectly complete.

What might have dispelled those notions a long time ago was to, like, actually talk to some Hispanic people on occasion, instead of extrapolating suppositions out of perceived cultural norms.

There are a lot of gay Hispanics. I mean a lot more. But, they still pack the churches on Sunday and are hardcore religious, unlike the liberals that attend the Ingles speaking masses. But, as long as Republicans want to build fences, talk about mass deportations, and how immigrants are stealing everybody's jobs, I think they will continue to slide over to the heathen party.

so the racist left won for pointing out that someone is of a different race and exploiting it, and we are CHEERING THIS?

We've truly lost any hope for this country.

That's generally not how civil wars are started. There isn't some pissed off white dudes therapy group where they hold a vote. If you want a war, go ahead and start one. Let's see how far you get.

Hey, btw - weren't you promising to start ####### with TSA agents at the airport? You do that yet?

I guess wanting to enforce the law is a non starter for the Pubs.

Snarky comments as necessary. Though I haven't been personally molested yet, so no reason to give them too much ###### other than that.

Is she twenty years younger than you, and doesn't challenge your opinion about anything like your first wife that wouldn't get off the couch to make you a sammich?

I'm a half-brown person who got here for free! star_smile.gif So I am totes able to opine on the struggles of all my Hispanic brethren, whatever race they may be.

(Just a friendly reminder AGAIN that "Hispanic" is not a race, thanks.)

There you go with your overdeveloped vocabulary and cultural elitist notions!

It's true, but I question how important that fact really is in a discussion about racial attitudes. Like it or not, racial attitudes in America correlate very closely with appearance. Skin tone, attire, dialect. A "Hispanic" who looks and sounds like an upper class Caucasian is going to have a very different experience in America than a low income immigrant "Hispanic" of African derivation.
