Hello everyone,

I have yet not submitted my documentation for the k1 visa but little by little I've been putting things together so that by the time I submit everything it will be much easier. My problem is that I just found out my fiance will be going into the military in his home country ( i am the petitioner), He is leaving in march 2013 and will be done with his serving time in september 2014, should i still send all documentation to his home address? I'm sure there will be times when he gets days off and goes home for a visit to pick up papers or what not. Will this affect in any way? I'm planing to wait at least until next January to send everything in, or should i do it sooner? I am jobless , i am a student graduating in december 2013!! any advice? i'm so sad.

His address is not an issue. Just make sure it is one he can receive anything from the consulate.

Once approved, the petition is valid for 4 months and can usually be extended in 4 month blocks for up to one year. Once issued, the K-1 is valid for 6 months. Add the current processing times for petitions and you are almost there now.

Verify that the consulate you will use will grant extensions. Write to them and tell them the same story and ask if you can extend the I-129f approval. If yes, you can file the I-129f now.

Be advised the consulate you are dealing with is not an easy one, and will require signifigant proof of relationship. That will be yours to produce while your fiance is in the military. I have little to offer in advice on that.

This last statement is very correct. This consulate is very difficult. You will want to gather as much proof of your relationship as possible, it will be more difficult while he is in the military. Keep in mind the timeframes when you choose to file as you need to have seen him face to face within 2 years. Hang in there, it will all work out in the end!

Thank you so much, gathering the information is not an issue I have more than enough! Been to Algeria 2 times and my stays have been pretty lengthy. Excuse my ignorance but where do I call to ask if the approval can be extended?
