Since another thread became a bit overwhelmed with cat talk when it was supposed to be about general life, I thought I'd start a thread specificlally for those of us who like cats, to talk about our pet cats, ferals you feed, discuss problems, and "miow" together

We just got a new foster cat today. She looks like a lilac or maybe blue point Siamese, don't you think? Front declawed, but wasn't spayed... when another volunteer for the cat rescue I volunteer for brought her to be spayed, she turned out to be 4 weeks pregnant with most likely 3 kittens, and that volunteer's apartment lease specifies no pets under one year old, so we took her in. She is just under 6 weeks pregnant now, so we may be having Valentine'a Day kittens :)

Wow! A new cat thread! luv.gif A year before my husband and I met, he adopted a man-cat from Siamese Rescue in Austin. I found a lady-cat with black boots on petfinder.com in November 2010 and arranged with her foster mom for a meeting to see if it would be a good fit. The FM brought her to our house and the lady-cat immediately greeted me, my husband, and the man-cat by headbutting each of us. She chose to be a part of our family in an instant. Her foster mom from the rescue organization said that she was visiting a high-kill shelter one day and spotted the lady-cat. The lady was on the euthanasia list but the FM just fell in love with her and took her home. I'm really grateful for people like her.

Congratulations. Thanks for all the work that you do. I still email my lady-cat's foster mom at least once a year to thank her and share pictures and videos.

Looking adorable!

I am out of +1s for the day. :( Calypso, your kitties are beautiful! Every story I hear about pet adoptions makes my heart grow a little. :) In a hard world when we can be so cruel to each other, it is so lovely to hear stories like yours and Kathryn's. star_smile.gif

Here is a first-day-home picture (from June) of Mofle (obscure Ecuadorian word roughly meaning "chubby girl"); diminutive name Moflita; alternate name La Gorda (fat girl), si man:

Moflita is a very sweet shelter kitty who succeeded Miss Daffy, my 10-year match made in heaven who returned there via necessary euthanasia on May 9, sigh man.

Molly's only been here since Saturday and she already feels comfortable enough to sit wherever she pleases.

Putting a pet down is one of the hardest things I've ever experienced. But when it's time, it's time and their needs outweigh ours. :(

Here is a pic of our two resident cats. Erica is the fluffy cat- looks like a Norwegian Forrest Cat/ Maine ####### cross. We adopted her from another local rescue after a FB appeal, because no-one wanted her. She was found starved during a snow storm. She is usually very loving but every now and then she will growl and attack your hand that is petting her. We named her Erica because we had a cat named Eric back in Ireland that looked identical (which is why we decided to adopt her soon after coming to the USA). Eric was a wonderfully snuggly cat, but extremely dumb- he had a clear view from the kitchen all the way to the living room window of our 4th floor apartment in Dublin, and would run full speed into the window everytime he saw a pigeon on the window sill outside.

Norm is a failed foster- he came to us after a vet called- a lady brought him in asking for vaccinations, then said she left her wallet in the car and would be right back. She never came back. We took him in and my husband (who is "not a cat person" ) took a liking to him so we kept him. Norm is an enormous cat, about 18 pounds. He usually holds his head to the side, the vet thinks it is either because when they got him he had a flea collar on way to tight, or he may only have one ear drum.

I am hoping to get a cat or kitten with the next year or so. I had to give up my two cats when I moved to the US, 8 years ago :(

this was one of my fur-babies, d'Artagnan (Dar for short).. He was not a cuddle on the lap kind of cat but he always seemed to know when I was feeling sad or alone because he would come and sit beside me and let me pet him while he purred.. :) In the mornings he would sit on my headboard and purr very loudly until I woke up :P

ManCat.jpg

this was Gem. The lady who lived upstairs brought him home from her work. He had taken a ride in the engine compartment of a car of someone she worked with..
