That's exactly what it was - the people who can't grasp the fact that he was born here in the USA. That's all.

It definitely wasn't a funny enough joke to be worth the pages explaining it though. I regret my decision.

And for that, Evylin, you are forgiven, lol. No hard feelings then.

Why would you be "completely offended" by someone saying "They don't speak English in Africa"

Is it because you think English is somehow superior to Kiswahili?

Are the people that speak English superior?

Naturally that's what the English were telling the Kenyans until 1963.

Maybe it feels good for "The Educated" Kenyans to still think it.

Why would I be offended? Umm,,let's see....do you know how many times people say ignorant things about Africa all because they don't care enough to do their own research? About our HUGE continent???? It's not the first time it's happened either. Are you aware that there are still people out there (especially Americans) who think that we live in trees? That all there is to this place is the wilderness, poverty, wildlife, dry land & lack of civilization?????

Number 2, don't put words in my mouth. I'm however VERY impressed that you are aware of the Kiswahili language. Congrats for that!!!! Truly impressed, really. Just for your information, Kiswahili is Kenya's NATIONAL language. So 90% of Kenyans speak it fluently. However, English is our OFFICIAL language. In other words, one has to learn the English language in order to acquire a white-collar job.

Why are you so upset???? Did you fight the Mau Mau war against the Britons to free our country??? As I said earlier, I'm here to clarify any ignorant views that are posted about my motherland. I'm proud of where I'm from & I want people to learn to respect my country. Lack of knowledge about a place gives NO ONE the right to speak ill about it. Just because it's a 3rd world country doesn't mean that it has nothing good to show for it!!!! Once again, for emphasis, DON'T patronize me or twist my words to suit your ego.

I wish people could just google Kenya to see exactly what this place is like. Really like. And not just what they see on CNN/BBC.

It seems you're taking this a little personal. Lighten up. This is the Politics and Religion forum. If it wasn't for people saying things here that other people consider ignorant, there would be no posts here.

Karee,if you were in my position then maybe you'd understand why I'm taking it personally. I'm not taking what Evylin said personally because she clarified that it was a joke. However, there are people pushing my buttons & that's why I'm reacting this way.

I'm just tired of all the views people have about the place which I've called home for the past 26 years. Now when I clarify something and someone keeps pushing me,then who's taking things too personal??? I can totally understand a light argument over something, but I don't appreciate having to defend my country from people who take what I say the wrong way.

Enough said.

We actually have a real Kenyan posting in P&R now. So when lostinblue starts one of his "Kenyan" threads, how are we supposed to know who he's talking about?

Oh,it's okay. When you say 'The Kenyan' I know you're talking about Obama. What, am I the first "real Kenyan" to post something on the P&R forum?

As far as I know. Some say Kip is from Kenya, but that hasn't been proven yet.
