Go to the table on http://en.wikipedia....king_population for a list of data sources/references.

Must be something wrong with my monitor, the map thing talks about anglospeak percentage in shades of green but most of Africa on that map is grey.

The data list site doesn't list Africa , It doesn't mention Angola or Chad. Perhaps someone doesn't want us to know what % of Africans speak english.

 Yes, I absolutely meant it as a joke. Please don't be offended. I know you speak English.

Don't let these other fools tell you otherwise!

Okay, phew!!!

It wasn't a big deal when Bush did it, but the stuff that came out of his mouth was way funnier.

Hi,what percentage of Filipinas speak English? Fluent English?

See,I can't answer how many people in the whole of Africa speak fluent English. It's a HUGE continent. Ask me how many people in Kenya specifically and I may be able to answer you. I'm not here to justify being African & to be patronized.

You just set foot in the wrong forum.

Clearly!!! I just think people should read previous posts before deciding to give their 2 cents about something. And all this because President Obama was being a human being. Who wouldn't hesitate during a speech in front of so many people?

Seriously people!

That's good advice. Having read a lot of previous posts, I thought Evylin's joke was poking fun at the birther types. You know - those crazy nuts lovable folks that think Obama was not born in the USA - so why expect him to speak English like a native speaker? IMO, it wasn't directed at English speakers in Africa. It's apparent none of us really know what percentage of people in Africa speak fluent English.

People have the most ignorant views about Africa and I find it completely offensive!!!!

Why would you be "completely offended" by someone saying "They don't speak English in Africa"

Is it because you think English is somehow superior to Kiswahili?

Are the people that speak English superior?

Naturally that's what the English were telling the Kenyans until 1963.

Maybe it feels good for "The Educated" Kenyans to still think it.

That's exactly what it was - the people who can't grasp the fact that he was born here in the USA. That's all.

It definitely wasn't a funny enough joke to be worth the pages explaining it though. I regret my decision.

Keep it up. You'll be sharing a cell with Kip, and I know you don't want that.

It was funny. The problem comes about when people don't have a certain humour/sarcasm button or these folks don't know how it works in these parts of town.
