My stepdaughter has her appointment letter for her upcoming interview in the US Embassy in Manila. She would like to have an English/Tagalog translator or bilingual interview officer during her interview.

Are most/all of the interview officers bilingual?

Can my stepdaughter request a bilingual officer on the day of her interview, or must she do this a week or so before the interview?

Thanks

We did not request a CO that was fluent in Tagalog, so he was doing the interview in English and had asked my wife a question when she hesitated with the answer he immediately without batting an eye asked the question in Tagalog. I am betting all the COs are fluent in Tagalog.

I believe you are correct Hank. I looked into the requirements for working at the USEM here in Manila and #1 on the list is fluent Tagalog.

Yes, the consular officers speak Tagalog.

However, there are translators available for applicants who don't speak Tagalog. This would not affect the OP, but it has been an issue for a few visa applicants in the past.
