  1. 1. Traffic lights

    • The libs can take them. Traffic lights are a violation of my liberty anyway.
    • Roundabouts feel vaguely European. I may have to move to the Mojave desert if it came to that.
    • Traffic lights are part of traditional America and I will defend them to the last drop of blood!

Everybody is going around in the wrong direction!

As long as they all going in the same direction is fine

F^ck 'em. I hate them here, I hated them in the UK. I hate mini-roundabouts too, possibly even MORE because drivers are so confused by them they just drive straight through them, or on the wrong side of the road. There are a few in West Hollywood just off Sunset I would willingly dig up with my otherwise pinko commie hands.

Edit to add: so this is what being a RWNJ feels like! I feel so... powerful.

Now just imagine how you'd feel with an AR-15 in your hands. You be trippin Boo.

I fired a gun for the first time a few months ago. Well, a "gun" -- it was an air rifle, and I shot at a target to win a cuddly toy at a seaside arcade. I carry the target around with me to show what a natural shot I am. I think it comes from all those brain-rotting video games I play.

Watch out boys -- nothing like an angry feminazi with an AR-15 and a bad case of PMS! I'm totally gonna wipe y'all out after I finish crying at this ASPCA commercial with Sarah McLachlan singing in the background.

I carry a gun because a cop is too heavy.

And that's how they get you hooked. Today it's air rifles and cute cuddly toys. Tomorrow it's semi-automatic weapons and Class A explosives.

I'm all for roundabouts and I'm speaking from experience. Roundabouts are MUCH better than traffic lights.

As long as people know how they work. We have one roundabout in Eastern Hillsborough county and nearly nobody knows how to work it. Most drivers think it works the same as an all way stop intersection. It's hilarious.

Yep. Everyone gets in the circle and then slows down and looks around, waiting for someone else to do something.

Over on the other side of the Atlantic on a little island where real English is spoken there are more roundabouts than people. But as they are actually taught to drive properly there it's not a problem. There is also double and triple roundabouts and roundabouts with traffic lights on them every 5 yards. If you get caught in the wrong lane on one of those you are doomed. :help:

It all runs like clockwork until some poor foreigner. Usually from North America. Panics and just stops dead in the middle puts their head on the steering wheel and starts to cry! :crying:

In Mass we have more roundabouts (rotaries) than any other state (so the driver's manual told me) but I don't think it's enough. We need to replace all those 4 and 5 way stop signs with mini roundabouts. Who the #### thought they were a good idea? :bonk:

Exactly! They installed this thing to improve traffic flow on what was a 4-way stop intersection. It backfired. Because people are unfamiliar with it, it is actually slower than the 4-way stop used to be.

[quote name=^_^' timestamp='1358806909' post='5934284]The 'fix' is so easy, at least here in NJ. There's already a section on roundabouts in the drivers ed manual. Just incorporate it into the actual test. Done.

Well, once your current set of drivers dies off. All it takes is a couple drivers that aren't sure what to do and the whole thing slows down to the point where nothing goes. Maybe it's extreme here in FL because of all the old folk we have on the roads.

 My mother actually lived in England for many years and did drive there. She comes to Denmark last month, we don't make it a mile out of the airport and she stalls the car in the middle of a roundabout, almost causing a chain crash of a fancy sports car and bus.

Roundabouts are scary. ;)

Studies like this are previews into the communist-liberal vision of America. Hold on to your guns, Americans, they'e coming for your traffic lights!!!!!!

Bonehead do gooders messed up traffic lights. It use to be as soon as one side turned green the other side was red. When it was yellow, you better be close and go or start stopping.

Well along comes good intentions. Hey, someone said. Let's make both sides red for a few seconds. That way the intersection will be clear, when the other side turns green.

Of course human nature being human nature, now people see a yellow light and think, gee i still have a bit of time.

So now days seeing people run red lights and not slowing for yellow is very common. Moral of the story--You can't legislate human behavior.

So how do we fix it,, go back to what worked...Heavens no. Let's make driving here as screwed up as it is in Europe.

Driving in the Philippines is not for the faint. I don't need no stinking traffic lights and stop signs.
