(CNN) -- Sheriff's investigators combed through what one called a "horrific" crime scene Sunday after the shooting deaths of five people, three of them children, outside Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Each of victims had been shot multiple times, Bernalillo County sheriff's Lt. Sid Covington, and one of the weapons used was what he described as an assault rifle. Bernalillo County Sheriff Dan Houston said a 15-year-old boy, who "may be a family member," has been charged with two counts of murder and three counts of child abuse resulting in death.

"Initially responding deputies entered the home and found the five deceased inside the residence, so obviously it was a very gruesome scene," Covington told reporters. There was no indication of a motive so far, he said.

"I've never seen a scene quite like this," he added.

Investigators did not released the names of the victims Sunday afternoon, saying the process of formally identifying the remains was still going on. But they said the dead included a man, a woman and three grade-school-age children -- two girls and a boy.

Houston said deputies were dispatched to the home, in a semi-rural area on the southwestern edge of Albuquerque, around 9:15 p.m. Saturday. They were summoned by "a party that was called by the suspect," he said, but "I don't know what the dynamics of that relationship is."

He said investigators are unaware of any criminal history by teen and were looking into whether any family members had a record. The boy is being charged as a juvenile, but prosecutors could bring charges against him as an adult, Covington said.

What's the betting that the guns used here were legally owned and registered?

Doesn't matter. There clearly weren't enough guns. Had there been enough guns, this would not have happened. Not sure whether it should have been one more gun or a dozen more or maybe 100 more. All I know is that there was a lack of firepower int hat house. That is why people died. They simply did not have enough guns to defend themselves. Can't you see that?

WQell, I guess I have finally seen the light. The convincing arguments put forth by what I regret to have referred to as gun nuts in the past has turned me around. I now know the truth. If only there would be more guns, we would all be so much safer. These people would be alive today if only there were more guns. They should have carried a gun on them at all times. Then this would not have happened. They would be alive and well today. Just hang in there, you will see the light eventually. Until you do, go out and buy some guns and ammo. You will be safer.
