For those who are done with Citizenship

Just want to run for quick advise from those who are done already with Citizenship before my oath this Friday. Anyway, after swearing in, what are the first thing you did? Update your profile with your local DMV? Or go to the SSN office first and change the status? How did you apply for passport?

I would love to hear other suggestions. Thanks.

I didn't have to update DMV unless there's a name change and you'll have to get another card to reflect that change. I went to SSA to update my immigration status. For US passport, go to the local post office or you could just to it on-site where you'll have the ceremony. Also register to vote.

Congratz on passing your interview!

The first thing Chinook did after her oath ceremony is register to vote. She registered to vote immediately after the oath ceremony. In fact, she did so in the very same room where she took the oath. They had voter registration forms available and she submitted one. She received her voter's card a couple of weeks later in the mail.

About one week after taking the oath, Chinook went downtown to our local Social Security office and showed them her naturalization certificate so they could update her status.

The same day that she updated her status at the Social Security office, Chinook applied for a passport at a business which provides that service. The business was within walking distance of the Social Security office. The business was closer than the nearest post office that offered passport service. Chinook found the business by googling "passport" and "Seattle."

Chinook had to leave her naturalization certificate with the passport business. It was returned about three weeks later in the mail along with her new U.S. passport.

Chinook did not have any reason to go to the Department of Motor Vehicles. Her driver license was in her married name already.
