Pregnancy during K1

I know many people have probably already mulled over this scenario, but I'm wondering if any stories are similar to mine. I'm currently just over 19 weeks pregnant and almost 5 months and 2 weeks into the K1 process. According to the Cali office, petitions are aimed to be processed within a 5 month timeline (not happened in this case). I'm considering calling the office to find out a little more about where we stand right now. Anyway... I'm from the UK and wondering if, when my visa is sent to London, there is any leg room for pregnancies. I know the process cannot be sped up currently, and a lot of you are likely to criticise me and tell me to wait my turn like everyone else, but where the interview stands, I am wondering if I am able to get in sooner. If not, does anyone have any guidelines as to how long the wait will be? Worrying a lot as I'm already getting way too big, flew to see my fiance over Christmas and plane ride was difficult enough then... not looking forward to waiting longer as I will be HUGE :(. My Fiance is also ex active duty and currently part of the military reserves. Wondering if this does anything for us??

HELPFUL replies will be nice :) Thanks!

Nope, sorry to say it won't do anything for you. And being pregnant wont speed anything up either. I was in your shoes last year, almost anyway, I got my interview one month after the baby was born cause California was way behind back then.

Once you get your Noa2 it all depends on how fast NVC is, and how fast you send in what they want. The interview will be scheduled after that. Usually about 3-6 weeks after case closed at NVC.

But you should still be good time wise, the airlines will let you fly until you are 36 weeks pregnant.

USCIS won't speed up your petition and I doubt the UK consulate will, but once your petition reaches London, you can always call.

That being the case, please look into the CRBA for your child if your husband meets the residency requirements. Your child will need a US passport to travel and that can take a few months.

Please be prepared for no expedite, although I hope it does happen

good luck

Thanks for the replies. I know it wont expedite the process, hopefully we will soon receive the noa2 anyway. If I can't make it to the states on time my fiancé will fly out here around the time I'm due and with any luck we will be able to register the child that way. Wasn't aware you could fly up to 36 weeks, thanks! That makes me feel better. :) I'll give the Cali office a call too.

The CRBA won't take that long if you make sure everything is in order. Have all the papers in order and call in for an appointment the day after the baby arrives and you are good. Once we had the appointment we had our baby's birth-certificate and passport within a week. But with that said, OP should be in the us before the baby arrives, she's only 19 weeks...

I want to give you some UK specific information. From NOA2 to visa, allow 3 months if all goes well. Also post #4 is a totally different process (CR1visa) and none of that answer applies to your K1. You can prepare for the next steps by studying this thread http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/350185-london-2012-k1s-from-noa2-to-interview-thread/ The first post lists things to do right now so when London gets your case, you will be ready with all your paperwork and required documents.

Medical exam: Being pregnant, you can choose to forego the chest x-ray. This is what the technical instructions say about screening for tuberculosis:

Use lead shielding for women of childbearing age.Pregnant women who are asymptomatic * may request that no chest radiograph be taken. Note this request on medical report form and advise applicant to obtain skin test after arrival in U.S

.

You will not be given an MMR shot. Pregnant women can get a flu shot, but you don't have to because it will be after flu season ends when your adjustment of Status happens, so will be waived. Tdap or Td is okay. Here's the pregnancy Immunization guidelines http://www.cdc.gov/vaccines/pubs/preg-guide.htm

Birth of baby and visa. See the two FAQs on the London website here http://london.usembassy.gov/faq-imm-proc.html#iv051

Note this part :

A child born after the issuance of an immigrant visa will not need a visa to accompany the parent provided they both travel within the period of validity of the visa. A copy of the child's long-form birth certificate showing the name of the parent must be carried for presentation to an immigration inspector at the port of entry, together with a valid travel document for the child.

And just curious to know if you have priced the cost of labor and delivery in the US without health insurance. Also if your fiancé has health insurance, can you be addeded immediately and what will be the cost of his part. It's never cost free, even with insurance. He might want to find out from his insurance carrier, if he has insurance. You might save thousands if the baby is born in the UK with NHS.

Congrats!! As for your question from what I know it might be slow down the process. The CO might request your fiancée to give birth in her country and do a DNA test, but it is up to the CO.

I'm hoping as I'm only 19-20 weeks, I can get over there in time! Fingers crossed. It'll be awkward to have to purchase baby items for both here and there and then to travel with a newborn too. We're covered as far as medical insurance goes and I'm under the impression that once married (which will have to be done immediately) I'll be under his. I am getting anxious as I have read that there is quite a large backlog with the Cali office?? :( I've seen anya service request form on the USCIS website which asks whether or not US citizen is with the military - which my Fiance is - does this help any??

There may be a waiting time before you're covered (3-12 months for some conditions). Have you looked into that?

Also, most insurances need a SSN before you can be added to the insurance. It'll be pushing things pretty close AND insurance isn't always 100% so there may be some significant out of pocket costs.

Hmm not looked into it properly I guess, but my Fiance seems to think it's okay. Regardless, he'd rather have the bills and be there at the birth etc. than me stay here.

hi there. i was 6 weeks pregnant when my fiance applied for K1 visa, and now we're waiting for NOA2 for 3.5 months already. yes, it's definitely true that pregnancy is not a valid reason to expedite. we called the USCIS before we applied for K1 and told them about me being pregnant, but they said it's not honored but we can still try, so we did. Obviously, we're still going through the normal waiting time as everybody does. If your fiance is an active member of military that's a good reason to expedite.

the only thing we can do is to do everything fast after we receive NOA2, while you're waiting for that you can now start gathering the documents that is needed in the interview.

best of luck to everyone and congratulations.

i think it depends on the insurance company, my fiance said i can be under his insurance starting on the 1st day of the following month after we get married. if your fiance is in military and he's gonna be deployed soon then u can request for expedite request.

CSC have 5 months to process/approve the NOA2.

congrats! =)
