I was called for an interview at Petsmart right after I accepted the job offer from my current position. I almost wish I'd gone just to see if I'd have a) gotten better hours and b) a better pay cheque. I always wanted to work with animals and would love to be a vet tech until I found out they only make about half in the USA what they make in Canada.

Vet Tech like at a petstore?

My sister was one of those when she was 17 and still in high school

She made min wage.

She gave shots to all of the dogs.

I think when people say 'vet tech' they mean in an actual veterinary office. :)

I got offered a management position at Petsmart before I found my current office job. The desire to work with animals wasn't strong enough to outweigh the desire to NOT work with customers so I didn't take it.

I kinda figured, but my sisters exact position title was 'vet tech' so it made me laugh.

No a vet tech normally works at a clinic with veterinarians. You generally have to go to college for at least 2 years to become one and it costs more than it's worth in the USA, esp at my age. Up here you get 25/hr... down there it's more like 14/hr... Yeah, no. headbonk.gif

Yes I meant at a vet office. In Alberta we call them Animal Health Technologists.

I really don't mind working with customers. I do it at my current job. I'm the seasonal supervisor at a Canadian Tire. I also worked at Zellers in a variety of positions for 6.5 yrs.

Oh, I should post more on here.

Weekend will look like I'm going on a solo flight to wander down a hill of pink cherry blossom trees :luv:

Jealous!

Well yeah, we close on our new home on the 13th. I'm tres excited, but nervous about the amount of ikea furniture I'm going to have to assemble. Ali totally gets off the hook with all of the "new house" #######!

I love a guy who looks like he could be on Criminal Minds as either an agent or a killer.

I don't know how interesting the Netherlands will be in February, but I just need to get out.

Where exactly are you going there? I've only been to Amsterdam and Groningen. I went to the tourist trap that is the Heineken brewery. People were so wasted by the end of that tour. The Van Gogh Museum was nice. Dutch is a great language. I can understand them fine, but can't say anything back without sounding like a moron.

I'm one of the people that causes that to happen :P

I volunteer for a cat rescue (answering phones and emails, fostering, volunteering at adoption events).

I was a dog foster with a rescue until my wife started working. Actually it became harder once she got here, because she wanted to adopt ever single dog we fostered. Except the one that kept chewing everything up, and she was leaning towards adopting him to. I ended up specializing in abused and neglected dogs that needed to be re-socialized and trained before they could be adopted out. I don't know how I got pegged into getting all the troubled dogs, maybe because the rescue group noticed I had gotten dogs back on a good path pretty easily and quickly. When I'd burn out I say I need an easy one next time. My own dog was one of those troubled dogs, very needy of attention and aggressive with other animals and humans. My wife saw her on the webcam and begged me to adopt her before she came here. Because the dog's attitude was so bad, I was reluctant to adopt her myself, you don't want your dog attacking other foster dogs, but I managed to get her to behave and socialized, although she still has the alpha dog attitude.

I had started learn Dutch before I met the Dane, but then it got all jumbled with Danish. My bio-dad spoke it and obviously my grandmother was fluent having been born there...but meh.

I think we are going to spend a day or two in Friesland visiting friends and family and then to Amsterdam (Van Gogh museum was on the list) and Den Haag to see another friend. I'm hoping that my husband will call to double check his appointment date so I can plan our trip and rent the automatic car (oh hell yes). I can't drive in Denmark because I've been here more than 6 weeks, but I can drive in the rest of Europe.

I lived in Golden, Colorado for a few years and had my 21st birthday in the Coors brewery with free beer and everyone singing Happy Birthday, so breweries are not so interesting. Plus, neither of us are really drinkers.

I'm waiting a response back from EU citizens services because I really want to visit my ailing grandfather in the UK with my daughter, but I'm afraid that they won't let us back into Denmark. I'm legally here, but not officially registered and my daughter is only an American citizen who can legally stay with me but I'm unsure about reentry into the Schengen. Well, maybe it will just have to wait until we aren't living in DK anymore. *shrugs*
