Get a new dog! I love having a dog, they are always cuddly and they help you get out and meet people.

No, my hubby was right in making me get rid of her.

I don't like when the dog moves.

I just want it to sit there and let me cuddle with it.

When it starts walking around or wanting to play, I get frustrated.

I'll start off - I'm 26 today!

Happy Birthday!

I went to Petsmart today for some food for my cat. Came home with another kitten. That's why I usually stay away from the adoption center.

Every once in a while I'll take a wander through the Petsmart. I always enter wondering if today's the day. :) The last time I was in there they only had really old cats. They were $150 each. There should be a discount on old cats.

Aw, I paid an adoption fee of $75 and it went right to the humane society that she had lived at previously.

They didn't have many older cats, I don't think. I usually don't even go over there because I feel bad and want to adopt all of them. But I was drawn to her. Couldn't help it.

I have a good friend who works at an animal shelter. His advice is that if you are serious about adopting an animal, either deal with a breeder direct, or adopt from a shelter.

Why help a big store's bottom line, when you can help somewhere that uses your money to help other animals?

Don't interrupt me when I'm talking to myself

She is gorgeous. I wouldn't have been able to walk away either. :luv:

Absolutely.

But how did Evylin's adoption fee go to the Humane Society if she bought from a Petsmart?

KDH is correct, Petsmart and Petco don't sell cats and dogs, all the cats and dogs you see there are from shelters or rescues like ours. The cats stay there a week or two in the hope of being seen, then go back to a foster home or the shelter. IN fact, Petsmart even gives a small donation to the charity when a pet is adopted, because it is assumed the adopter will buy stuff for the new pet while they are there.

Those are hefty adoption fees quoted in this thread! We charge $40 for adults, $60-75 for kittens and long haired cats. We also have a "senior for seniors" program, where a retired person can adopt a cat over 8 years old for $10.

I love the crazy cat lady cat tree and the crazy cat lady starter kit images! As one of those crazy cat ladies, I currently have 4 indoor cats (moved to the US with 6), 2 outside cats who live on the porches - one feral and one who thinks he owns the neighbourhood and would definitely hurt our indoor cats if he came inside, plus I look after a feral colony that has about 13 individuals in it, although I generally only see about 7 or so at a time. I feed them every day and medicate their food once a week with a contraceptive to ensure they don't have kittens while I work on getting the colony members neutered and spayed. My indoor kitties are two brothers and two sisters - all of them 'rescues'. The two sisters were born feral and I was feeding their mother. When they were about 9 weeks old she brought them to my doorstep as she wanted my help in feeding them. It took another month to catch them. I found a home for their mother and their sister but kept these two. The two brothers and their sister were orphaned at around 10 days old when a neighbour's dog killed their mother. Neighbourhood kids brought me the kittens (I used to walk one of my cats on a leash and harness so all the neighbourhood kids knew me as the cat lady). I bottle raised them and my other cats helped socialize them to become 'cats'. A friend of mine in Minnesota adopted their sister. Lion and Bear along with one of my elder cats who passed away 2 years ago are in the picture on my posts. Abbie and Freija are black and white tuxedo cats - or 'Holstein' cats as my husband likes to say. I had 3 outdoor cats until a month or so ago. One of them disappeared and after searching and looking everywhere and talking with neighbours, I have come to the conclusion that he was probably caught by a Great Horned Owl that hunts in the area :( . I would love to be able to bring the other one in - not the aggressive one, but the missing one's mother - but she truly is feral and would not get along with our cats. The best I can do is keep feeding her and try to keep her safe with a nesting box to sleep in on the back porch.

So, good for you for adopting another kitty :) .

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

Like I said above, the animals at Petsmart are there FROM a humane society. And when I paid the adoption fee, the check was made out to the humane society she was from. So, I didn't help a big store's bottom line at all. :)

You are awesome for all you do. Those kitties are lucky to have someone looking out for them.

I was called for an interview at Petsmart right after I accepted the job offer from my current position. I almost wish I'd gone just to see if I'd have a) gotten better hours and b) a better pay cheque. I always wanted to work with animals and would love to be a vet tech until I found out they only make about half in the USA what they make in Canada.
