Hi Vjers

I can't believe how the Embassy keeps adding chargers to visa fillers?? isn't it enough already ??!! Now starting on February 1st, every interview or visa granted from this day on, the visa holder will not be able to enter the US unless they pay a fee of $165.00. This is insane..everything is money, money, money. I just hope my fiance can get his on hand before this day.Sorry but I had to take this out of my system. Does anyone feel the same ???

The increase is only for immigrant visas. The K1 is not an immigrant visa, it's a non-immigrant visa. You are a K1 applicant. The fee does not apply to you.

Does anyone know if this can be paid once I'm back in the states with my husband or does this have to be paid before I leave the UK? Also, is it quick to pay or does it take time to be 'processed'?

I'm hoping to leave ASAP after my interview and really don't want any more delays....

They adjust the fees all the time to cover the cost of the whole process. They went up the month before we were eligible to file papers for removing conditions. The government doesn't pay for immigration privileges with taxes. It's funded by visa fees. People complain waiting so long and why don't they hire more staff. That would mean higher fees to the people getting visas or greencards. I guess my opinion is "no opinion". It is what it is.

Read the link Vanessa gave. It tells how/when the fee must be paid.

Reads to me like you are still able to pass through immigration and get into the states before paying but I'll probably just pay it as soon as my visa arrives. I'll be asking when I'm down for my interview to see what they advise

Great. I thought we had done with the payment side of things other than the courier. Got us by the balls as usual so it has to be paid. Thankyou for starting this thread I had no idea.

Applicants must pay this fee online through the USCIS website. Applicants should submit payments after they receive their visa package from DOS and before they depart for the United States.

The applicant will not receive a green card until the required USCIS Immigrant fee is paid.

Failure to pay does not affect the lawful status of the applicant. The applicant will have their passport stamped showing their lawful admission and permanent resident status. This stamp is valid for one year but it is strongly advised that new permanent residents pay the immigrant fee as soon as possible to avoid delays in receiving their Permanent Resident Card.

---

Based on the above I would pay it as soon as you get your visa and leave whenever you want. If you can't afford it yet you can wait to pay it but it will delay the processing of your GC (though you would still be legal on entry to the US) so pay it asap.

Get used to paying fees and taxes because once you get to this side of the Atlantic it never stops. :(

It was 15 trillion last I heard. Has Obama spent another 20 trillion on shoes for Michelle already?

Bit harsh, my USC husband will be paying the fee and IS paying over and over for the debt the US has. He has every right to feel angry at extra fee's.

When I get over I'll be working and paying taxes too. We all know how this debt was incurred and it certainly wasn't us 'average Joes' anyway pointless getting political on an immigration board :bonk:
