I don't think my Hindu in-laws would like it either.

Not because of their hindu beliefs but maybe because of what's considered normal in their society now... how many hindu gods were polygamous?

In fact. I think marriage should be left for the churches to handle, and civil unions to the state. I don't understand why the state is involved in marriage in the first place, since it's a religious institution.

Peace to All creatures great and small............................................

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

I prefer KY jelly and I would read that book to my kids.

I believe that since the world is made up of all kinds of people children should know it. I even teach them about closed minded hate filled people....and I know they won't become that.

Really? Do you teach them about polygamists too? How about other forms of group marriage? How about group sex without marriage? Marriage with animals?

The fact is that you only want to teach your children to be open minded about what YOU believe is acceptable, not what anyone thinks is acceptable.

Did you ever notice that gays and lesbians usually don't approve of polygamy? I wonder why that is? ;)

Polygamy: the practice or condition of having more than one spouse, esp. wife, at one time. Compare bigamy (def. 1), monogamy (def. 1).

Why would it matter what gays and lesbians think of polygamy, as they aren't allowed to have a government-acknowledged union anyway? (No, don't answer that, it's a devil's advocate question.)

Electricity is really just organized lightning.

Some of us do not think gay marriage should be called "marriage". And guess what, a lot of other people in the country agree. So I'll have to 'agree to disagree' because I'm not changing my mind on this anytime soon. And don't try to tell me that I hate gays.

Yes, the reason we don't think gay marriage should be called "marriage" is because its not.

It's the gays who are trying to redefine marriage to obtain more social acceptance for their lifestyle choice.

Most of the gay people I know don't care if society accepts their lifestyle. They just don't want to be penalized for it. (And before it's said, if it's against God, then let God penalize them. Judge not and all that...)

I personally don't care if it's called a "marriage" or a "union", but I find it hypocritical to laud "marriage" in this country which has a divorce rate of over 50%, as if it's some sort of elitist club. I know many Christians, including many who would describe themself as such on this board who are on marriage #2 (or greater).

Taking religious connotation completely out of it, not being able to have a government-acknowledged committed union means that things like options with income tax and decision-making around health care issues are not in parity with the rights of every other citizen.

Sexual orientation shouldn't diminish those rights.

i leave the judging to someone else. i have my set of rules and i follow them as best i can. i'd hate it if someone else imposed their rules on me. this is more on the theological side of course.
