I don't believe that everyone who isn't in agreement with the notion of gay marriage is automatically in 'hate' mode, but I do really wish someone could give me a good sound reason why it's 'wrong'.

How is it good enough to say, it's wrong because some religious teachings say so? What is it that makes the practice of homosexuality evil?

The answers have already been presented in this thread, if you are speaking religiously on it. This kind of argument is not going to go anywhere good because of the fact that you do not hold those beliefs. If you don't hold those beliefs, about it being wrong (which for me the bible says enough about it), then you will not see why it it's wrong IMO. So there's almost no point arguing over a belief of something that you do not share. There are many references in the bible about it being wrong. Since I follow those beliefs, I believe that. You don't. How could we have a decent debate about it then? We won't ever agree on this I'm sure.

I am not dodging questions, I am challenging the validity of it.

Sure, if I were homosexual, I would have a vested interest in proving that it is not 'evil/wrong'. However, my sexual preferences have no sway on the arguments. Either something is demonstrably wrong, or it's not. I am waiting for some proof of how it's wrong/hurtful/damaging/evil.

ah yes, another snide remark. now those who disagree are only in this for sex.

I know because my husband and other man I have known all enjoy have some stimulation in that area....

There is a old saying "How do you know you dont like it... if you have never tried it..."

No not snide. I am serious. Everytime someone hates gays they go with ####### or some other remark about ####### sex. Why is it always only about sex?

You are probably right. However, I just wondered if you had any thoughts as to why it's promoted as wrong by religious people, beyond the 'it's not natural/normal' argument. Other religious teachings make sense, this one doesn't make any sense to me.

Charlesandnessa, explain to me exactly how my sexual preferences/orientation/proclivities have any relevance beyond you being able to say, "well, you feel that way because.... "or, huh, "how can you feel that way unless?"

You have a book that says its wrong.... there are books out there that say its normal and ok to be homosexual.... if you want others to respect your book you should also respect others books.... each live to there own and nobody has the right to inflict there beliefs on any one else... you marry who you feel attracted to and allow other to marry who they are attracted too...

Then there is no problems all round

I don't have to agree with the other books, and you don't have to agree with mine. You do not agree, so should I say you do not respect my book?

It's just funny to me, that you want me to compromise my beliefs and accept everything, but you will not accept my beliefs. So you are just trying to change me. :P

but you are forcing your beliefs on those who don't agree with your book by saying no to same sex marriage. Why do others get to decide what 2 consenting adults can do? Do they lose all of their rights because your book says they are wrong?

They shouldn't lose human rights, no...and well gay marriage is hardly legal anywhere in the US so they don't have those rights yet anyway. If they want to form some sort of union, to be able to make a decision for health issues should something happen to their SO, that's fine. And even if gay marriage is allowed across the US eventually(which probably WILL happen), still doesn't mean I have to agree with the homosexual lifestyle. Just like you don't agree with my beliefs.

The difference is, that your belief on this matter affects how others are allowed to behave/are treated. Someone who does not share your belief has no effect on your freedoms/enjoyments/judgments.

There are good reasons to ban certain types of behaviour, however homosexual behaviour doesn't affect anyone other than the participants and there is nothing to suggest it has any effect on either the participants or anyone else for that matter.
