I know this has been discussed earlier, but need some clarity.

I have the package ready and want to send it tomorrow. I don't have the transcripts but have copies of the joint return. Will that suffice ?

Has anyone got an RFE for sending returns instead of transcripts ?

Thanks

You need either full returns with W2's or transcripts. You will receive an RFE if the returns are not complete.

I sent copies of the tax returns and not the tax tanscripts, but I made sure that I had attached all our W2s so nothing was missing. During the 9-month waiting process, I also ordered the tax transcripts, preparing myself for a possible RFE. However, everything was fine and the I-751 was approved without receiving an RFE. Now, looking back, if I were in your shoes, for my own piece of mind, I would go with the tax transcripts.

Thanks Everyone for clarifying.

Is there a reason they ask for W2 with Tax returns. Is it to verify if the income from both match or for any other purpose ?

Thanks

Yep. Unscrupulous people have been known to generate fake tax returns to prove income. The W-2's and 1099's are the only way they have to verify the income. The information from the W-2's and 1099's is on the tax transcripts.

Transcripts are the way to go.. Free, simple and consolidated for your easy use.... I wouldn't try and mess with the tax returns especially if it is a multi page return.. Transcripts are offical documents so you are fully covered with them....

I was able to do a walk-in to the local IRS office and get my Joint tax transcripts. So sent both the transcripts and the returns with W2/1099 :)

For those of you who don't have a Fax and can't wait the 5 to 10 days to get your transcripts in the mail and need to be able to send the Forms to USCIS immediately, you should be able to go to your local DMV office and get your transcripts in person within few minutes after filling out a form. It is free.

How to request an IRS tax transcript

When Calling Between the Hours of 7AM to 10PM,
