Hello,

My name is Jordan, and thanks for all your help!

I met a girl online almost two years ago. We connected, etc, etc, and have fallen in love. We haven't even gone a day without talking.

The problem is that she is Algerian and I am American. A muslim and a christian!

I'm 25 and she is 19.

We we're talking fine until her brother got released from prison. Now we are talking in secret.

The stereotpye of misogynist and abusive muslims is true on her end. Her brother told her to cease communication with me by telling her he's slit her throat. She's no stranger to abuse and has been beat until her eyes bled before. This is no joke and we are doing the best to keep our relationship private. So far so good.

The next problem is that I want her here! With me and safe! All my family knows her very well. My sister and mom both lover her.

But it seems these visa folks want to make things as hard as possible. I cant get a fiance visa without meeting her. But I cant meet her without a tourist visa. I would simply go there myself, but Algeria is not safe, and many hate Americans there. Plus her brothers would most likely try to kill us both.

So that leaves only a tourist visa for her to get here. She has no money... So my family is trying to sponsor her. However it seems sponsors are not usually successful unless its from a family member!

It's driving me crazy! I just want to bring this girl I love out from her abusive family!

She will be sneaking away to get a visa interview in a month, but things are not looking so positive for an acceptance.

Is there any light for us? Thank you!!

Can't you meet her in another country? Morocco is safer isn't it? I don't know but I wish you the best.

Maybe you could contact via email or phone the embassy before her interview and explain the situation? The only problem I see they would have is that there is intent to migrate with the tourist visa. My advise would be to make an infopass to ask if that constitutes a special circumstance if you were to file the k-1 for not meeting in person . Good luck, that's a bad situation :(

It would be a miracle if she obtained a US visa.

So meet in a country you are prepare to visit and which she could get a visa for.

Thank you all so much!

I need to think more about the meeting in another country. The only problem is that our marriage is not legal in muslim countries. And if we did get married, she would still have to go back to her country and wait for a while, right?

She can't go back to her family once they know.

Thanks,

Jordan

Meet in Spain or France, whatever works best for you. Both countries will allow you to get married there.

There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. When I refer to hyphenated Americans, I do not refer to naturalized Americans. Some of the very best Americans I have ever known were naturalized Americans, Americans born abroad. But a hyphenated American is not an American at all . . . . The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin, of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be a nation at all, would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities, an intricate knot of German-Americans, Irish-Americans, English-Americans, French-Americans, Scandinavian-Americans or Italian-Americans, each preserving its separate nationality, each at heart feeling more sympathy with Europeans of that nationality, than with the other citizens of the American Republic . . . . There is no such thing as a hyphenated American who is a good American. The only man who is a good American is the man who is an American and nothing else.

If she is a Muslim her family could hurt her for marrying a AMERICAN CHRISTIAN!!

She would not be safe to marry him

She would not be allowed to travel alone to another country either

If she can somehow get a visa (without her parents permission) to another country then you had better plan to keep her there during the fiance visa process and pay for her living until the visa comes through to keep her safe

They wouldn't make it to the interview, the petition would be denied at USCIS for not meeting the requirements

OP - a 3rd country is your best bet, or fly to Algeria. Many Americans on here have travel there, perhaps post this in the regional forum for help traveling there

good luck

As mentioned, it is very hard for a young lady to get a tourist visa, especially with a boyfriend in the USA. And even if she got one, what then. Say she comes here to visit you... won't her brothers beat her up when she goes back? She cannot immigrate onj a tourist visa if that was your plan, even if you get married during her visit.

It sounds to me the third country option is your best bet. Maybe look into her studying in another country, so she can stay there during the visa process (a K1 fiance visa, once you met, or a CR-1 spousal visa, once you married, take the bulk of a year to process).

This is going to be tough. Not so much the immigration hoops but the family opposition. My best friend who lives in SW Iowa his son meets a Malaysian in college(she is here on student visa). They get married in JP court. But her parents are adamantly opposed to her marrying non-Muslim. My friend who really hasnt ever been outside the US is concerned about them going to visit and her parents going ballistic. They finally go visit but still havent told them they are married. And its been several years. These people probably have it figued out but I guess the visit went okay.

I wish you luck. You will need it.

This seems to be a case in which you might want to speak to an immigration attorney. Do look for one that is reputable (as many don't, but there are good ones, I believe there is one that participates in this forum); and also do look for one that has experience in your specific case and countries. Immigration law is federal, so anyone in the country would do. Many do have an initial no cost consultation (and even if there is a fee, it is money well spent I believe) that you can use to have a good assessment of the case and understand the possibility of an exception to the 2 year meeting rule in K-1 or another alternative. Not to say you would go that way, but other than meeting in another country (Morocco could be a good one as strict religious rules are more relaxed), there might not be much else.
