Changing address during ROC and Prior Address Change

Folks,

It is finally that time for us and I'm putting together our packet for ROC for mailing in about a week. I did not realize that processing ROC is going to take so long - yikes! We plan on buying a home this summer and thus our address will change during the ROC process. What do we do in this case to ensure our address is up to date for our ROC case? Additionally, I moved about 1.5 years ago, and hubby about 7 months ago to our home in Texas (staggered due to finishing PhDs at different times) and now have read we were supposed to tell USCIS about our move. What do we do?

Thanks!

Most everything you get from USCIS mentions address change as I recall. Not looking at any NOAs right now. Also the greencard came with paperwork saying to change your address if you move as long as you hold a greencard. I'm saying that not to you but to remind other readers to read all the writing sent from USCIS.

Here's the change of address page http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/uscis/menuitem.5af9bb95919f35e66f614176543f6d1a/?vgnextoid=2e5174ab3d2fa210VgnVCM100000082ca60aRCRD&vgnextchannel=db029c7755cb9010VgnVCM10000045f3d6a1RCRD

Change yours, even late. You won't be punished. Folow the no pending cases instructions.

When you file for ROC, you will have a pending case, so notice there are different instructions to follow if you move again after filing while you wait. Another tip. Your ROC reminder always goes to the address where the greencard was mailed. Even if you change your address properly, the reminder notice is not in the loop for an address change. So don't fret if you don't get a reminder or if somebody at that address notifies you a notice came to you at the old address. That's just a quirky thing about the reminders. You don't have to worry that your change of address wasn't received. It was.

I changed address 1 week before submitting I-751 and every things went smoothly. 10 year card received. All correspondences from uscis went to my new address. I also sent copy of address change for spouse and me included in I-751 application. I suggest that you don't change AFTER sending I-751.

Where are you moving? Different address in the same town? or different town altogether? If a different town then just do the address change during the process (AR-11 and I-865). If same town then get a PO Box prior to filing and have all your mail sent there. That way you will be assured you won't lose mail.

As for failing to file address change, the consequences of doing so typically only occur if ICE or USCIS has tried to contact you and hasn't been able to (for example a surprise visit, or sending you something you needed to reply to).

As you're filing ROC soon just put the new addresses on the form.

Thank you all for the advice. I will go ahead and submit AR-11 and I-865 before I send off the I-751. We are moving one town over sometime this summer but obviously we don't know where yet since we are searching for a place to buy.
