Hello Fellow VJers,

I posted about a month ago that my wife had her interview on October 3rd for K3. She was issued a 221 (g) to provide an affidavit for her birth certificate and that all should be fine after that. After running around a lot she was finally given a date of Nov 8th (today) for a re-interview.

She went there today and was asked a whole lot of questions again...many strange and weird questions like there's a court case pending on you and that you've been married before. I know these are not true and she attested to it. Surprisingly they even called her home in Mumbai and spoke with her brother and asked him these things as well in a very tricky way !!

Towards the end they held on to her passport and told her that we will send your passport via courier to your home address but you cannot pick it up at the VFS office. She was not given any forms this time nor was she told that her case is on hold or anything. So I don't know if this is good or bad ?!?! Someone please throw some light on this. Here are my questions to all:

1) Has anyone ever heard or experienced that the consulate called the home phone to verify answers at all?

2) The consulate is holding her passport, she has not been given any forms this time. Is there a chance she will not get the visa?

3) Has anyone in Mumbai experienced that you cannot pick up your passport at VFS but they will courier it to you hojme address? If so, how long does it take?

Please please any input is appreciated on this. Positive or negative...any feedback is welcome. Thank you all. I hope this turns into a good thing.

It usually is a good thing when they retain the passport because they need to put the visa in it. I would be more concerned if they did not keep it. Keep the faith and hang in there!!

YMMV

1) Has anyone ever heard or experienced that the consulate called the home phone to verify answers at all?

Yes they have done this in Islamabad and I know of one from India. And in our case they asked why I was divorced but they knew and had proof I was widowed so you never know what questions or how they will verify. ME/Asia/African consulates have home investigations as well and in our case they called and contacted persons that attended our wedding and went to my husband's home and his sisters as well.

2) The consulate is holding her passport, she has not been given any forms this time. Is there a chance she will not get the visa?

She will get the visa via courrier but not sure how long this will take. I have seen several cases different embassies that held passports and it was few days to a month before they sent it to the individual.

3) Has anyone in Mumbai experienced that you cannot pick up your passport at VFS but they will courier it to you hojme address? If so, how long does it take?

Not sure of Mumbai but the timing does vary by case and consulate. Good luck and hopefully she will have it before too much longer.

Thanks a bunch for your positive thoughts guys.....I hope it works out for the best. If anyone else have different opinions please post. Thank you once again. After the initial interview was unsuccessful, I've become very paranoid and all that comes to mind are negative thoughts.

But I'm lucky to be a part of VJ where we all share the same pain of separation and I don't know what I would have done with your help.

Sachinator,

In my opinion, if they kept her passport she is approved and will get the visa.

Regarding picking up the passport from VFS, I don't think embassy controls whether you can or can not, VFS does. Your wife should be able to call VFS and ask if they would let her do that. When my wife was waiting for her passport, I called VFS from here and they did offer to hold the passport at the New Delhi office if my wife wanted to pick it up. By the way, VFS got my wife's passport back from New Delhi Embassy 12 days after the interview.

Good luck.

Sachin:

As other stated, holding passport is positive and am sure she will get passport with visa....

Regarding strange questions, my guess is that they may found such record with other person similar name as your wife's so they may have got doubt...anyway, this was never heard before for mumbai.

I have filed DCF for my wife and waiting for pack-3 from Mumbai. Can you tell me how do they send pack-3,4 etc..I mean by govt regular mail or some courier.....?

Thanks and good luck...

Hi Raj,

Thanks for the best wishes. As for packet 3 and 4, they send it via regular government mail, very very unreliable. In fact many people even don't get their mail until their interview date has passed. My advise and I do advise strongly on this that go visit the consulate to pick up packet 3. Fill it out and go to personally drop it off. About a week later go there again in person to pick up packet 4. If by chance you are not in Mumbai, do e-mail them and they will send you a link to the stpes. Good luck!

We had difficulties getting the correct Packet 3 from Mumbai. My fiance and I both e-mailed the consulate. We both received the same general response to just go to their web-site http://mumbai.usconsulate.gov/ivforms.html for both packets. When he sent Packet 3, he did reqest a receipt confirmation through their postal system and did receive confirmation. We also received e-mail confirmation from the consulate.

The main thing I am trying to point out here, if you have the capability of downloading and printing both Packet 3 and 4 from their web-site there is not much need to actually go to the consulate or wait for it to possibly arrive or NOT arrive in the unreliable mail.

Good Luck!

Sachin:

Thanks for response. Actually we have filed DCF 20 days ago and they told us that we will get pack-3 in a month. We still have 10 more days to finish one month..so I am thinking to wait 10 more days and if we dont get by than we will try to go to consulate.....

but my questions are: as you have suggested, do they allow people to pick pack-3 and drop in person...where should we go..in general window section of the consulate...so far, as we have filed DCF, we dont have any proof, case no...etc..all we have is recpt of paying 190$ filing fee and that's it....can we go there based on this recpt and try to collect Pack-3...

I guess, pack-3 will also have case no for our case since ours is DCF, so question is when you go to embassy than they will give you only standard pack-3 forms(which you can get it from web as lak&ajm suggested) but how to get our case no etc..?

Well, anyway, I am keeping figner crossed and wait for sometime...

Thanks...-Raj
