Chuck, fact is, it IS unusual to see a gun on someone in this day and age. Open carry is almost unheard of in most civilized areas of the country. Most people do not consider a firearm the norm in public, for you to scoff at someone for saying so doesn't speak to highly of your social circle.

unusual because it's stigmatized. just like people are doing with the guy in the op. open carry is legal in several states. whether people choose to do it is up to them. while i wouldn't do it personally, i don't see a reason to castigate one doing it when it's within the law.

Chuck, Chas, Charlie, they are all acceptable derivitives of the name Charles, no disrespect intended, just my preference to call you Chuck. One of my friends as a kid was named Charles and he cringed if we called him that, he thought it was feminine, so force of habit yanno? However I will try to keep it to Charles from now on.

Anyhow, it does speak volumes of your social circle, mind you I do not have any experience with your PERSONAL social circle, but if you believe that open carry is the norm for anyone in the civilized US, you are sadly mistaken. That's one of the more common denominators among the gun slinging crowd - they all live in relative isolation.
