EAD approved

My wife's EAD got approved yesterday , when will she be able to work? are they goign to send an EAD card of some sort and when does that come in?

we haev our interview on 2/12.

She can work once she has the EAD in hand and a SSN. It is a card and you can expect it within 10 days. She can get a SSN with the EAD. Congrats!

Thanks Harpa you are always on top of my posts heheh I appreciate it.

The reason I ask is there are interview tuesday for subsitute teachers at my clients that might be of interest to my wife ( as she used to be a teacher back home) so I wanted to get an idea when she can 'official' work but if we have this interview coming up i wanted to let them know that she should be able to work legally in 2 weeks or so once she has the EAD/SSN at hand.

congrats!!!! Wait about a week and the EAD card will come in the mail...then the next day you can go to the ssn Office and apply for a ssn#.....sometimes they will give you a number right away (on a piece of paper and the card will come in the mail) or they will tell you they have to have it authorized by USCIS/DHS and then you will be issued a card---- like my husband....regardless we waited 6 days and it came in the mail...so maybe a week or so after your wife can start working.

She can apply for jobs and do interviews right now. I doubt she will ever get hired on before she gets her card. It will come in 7 to 10 days likely. If you go to the SSA office, they can give you her SSN same day or the next day with her EAD. My wife applied for hers on a Thursday afternoon and got the actual SS card in Mondays mail (2 Business days later) so it was really quick.

Your wife is technically legal to work right now, she just needs the card to prove it to the employer and a social number to get paid. The card will reflect this as the date it becomes valid is the date it is approved, not the date sent out or received.

thanks for the advise ! its good to know the card is coming in within 10 days ...we are job hunting this upcoming week so i am hoping we can find something that works for us in the short term. We are looking for probably a part time job until she's comfortable with the language and can drive comfortably. I just bought her a car over Christmas and now is the time to train on driving on american highways heheh ( wish me luck ! )

lol..I have driven in Jordan, and trust me, driving for her will be MUCH easier for her here in the US!!
