Age gap - Education level difference K1

Hi all,

Me and my fiance are patiently waiting for our NOA2 hoping all will go well. However I am a huge worrier and keep reading up on stuff that could potentially go wrong so I don't pass out at the interview if something does (I am joking but you get the idea).

So...our situation is as follows - he is 8 years younger than me (people can't tell though so I am hoping our pictures will be helpful) so gap 1 and also he never finished high school while I got my Masters degree. Is this really a huge deal ? I mean we love each other, I never cared about his educational level - he is the smartest person I have ever met but having read stuff on here ...it seems that this could potentially be a problem ? I am going crazy - it is not like there is much we can do about age gap or educational gap - not like he can quickly get a university degree just to satisfy the requirements. Would us providing affidavits from his parents and my parents to the effect that they approve of our relationship and know about it would make any difference ?

I know we did not even get our NOA2 and I was fine until I started reading about potential issues ....again. So now I am worried ...again !

thanks for any input

I am almost 21 years older than my husband, age was not an issue, just one question from the CO asking if the age difference bothered me(I attended the interview), the CO did not ask my husband if it bothered him, but we went the CR1 route. We are both college graduates, so I can't answer that. My husband and I had several red flags and were able to overcome all of them .Age difference, difference of religion, meeting on the internet(not so much a red flag now), marrying my first visit to Jordan(I was there a month before we married, in his culture "dating" by American standards is not allowed). But we had many visits and spent quite a bit of time together before the interview, I don't know what your situation is as far as time spent together. We were very prepared for the interview, we answered all the the questions honestly, and other than my husband having AP for 10 weeks(mandatory for most men through Jordan), we were told the day of his interview he was approved pending the outcome of name checks. I think as long as you have proof of an ongoing relationship with evidence to back it up you will be fine. We went through a high fraud country, and really had no problems. I think most of the denials you see here where people are told they are denied because of age difference, have other underlying issues, and/or were unprepared and lacked evidence. Most of us with a big age difference are approved. I will go on to say, it seems there is more scrutiny when the woman is older(double standard) because although society in general here says there is nothing wrong with it, it is not the social norm, especially in other parts of the world. Good luck!!!

We need to be realistic, a difference of 5,8 years they won't give a damn, but 15,20years age difference? Oh hell yes! .I can remember at least 10 posts here in the VJ that the K1 or CR1 was denied and the women were 15,17 years younger than their husband. But it seems they don't care when the guy is 50,60 years old and the woman 21,25 etc...go figure.I believe you won't a problem because of that .

it's called a double standard whistling.gif

I know your worries as they are mine also - he is 20 years younger than me ( its never been an issue , people assume he is older than me, I take excellent care of myself) but it still scares me - we have been together 1 year 1/2 i have made 4 trips to see him and have loads and loads of proof of our relationship but i still sometimes drive myself crazy wondering what will happen if we are denied. There are other couples on this board who have the age difference and were approved and that helps me calm down....

i think as long as the relationship is real and the love it there it will be evident and all will be fine...

best of luck :)

My husband and I went through Amman with CR1, I am 21 years older, it wasn't an issue. If he is Muslim, the bigger issue with the consulate in Amman will be that "dating" isn't allowed before marriage, so you will be asked what his family thinks and feels about this. Best of luck, I really miss Jordan, I am hoping we will be able to get back for a visit this year.

My husband is 14 years older than me and we didn't have a problem. I was asked one question about it at my interview (what do your parents think?) I answered that and they went on to something else. As someone else said, I think age gaps are actually pretty common in our situation. And as for the education thing, I'm sure that won't be a problem either.

Just follow the old "prove you have a legitimate relationship" rule and you'll be fine. Good luck! :D

Hi!

Your worries are for naught.

I am happily married to a HIGH FRAUD MENA man who happens to be 15 years younger than me. Surprise surprise! He is here with me in USA.

You just need to satisfy the USCIS requirements of what's legitimate and their expectations when filing paperwork.

If your relationship is genuine, you have nothing to worry about. smile.gif

Others have commented on the age gap, I will offer my thoughts re: educational gap. I have a PhD in medical science and my husband is an electrician. Did it bother the CO: NO, does it bother us: NO, does it bother others: well, sometimes people raise an eyebrow, but overall, it's no one else's business but ours. So, if it works for you, no one will question it, at least not to people that will determine your visa eligibility.

My husband is 6 1/2 years younger than me, and it didn't even come up in the interview. As long as you can prove you have a bonafide relationship, you'll be fine.

I am almost 17 years older than my husband and we also have a large education difference. I am a doctor and he didn't finish his college education even though he is one of the smartest people I know. Like you, I had read that both of these things would be a red flag. I attended his interview because I thought if they saw us together they wouldn't be as aware of these red flags. Neither of these things were asked about in our interview.

The only time it has been an issue was with family and friends - and i really don't care what they think - if he was the older, more educated one, no one would think a thing of it.

Good luck with your visa journey! :)
