I know we've talked about this before....BUT....

does anyone have families that are just not going to accept your relationship?

My family is giving me hell right now. totally disrespecting my situation. they are confused about my future with him. How will he be able to contribute? what type of work does he do? his education, or lack thereof? it's awful. we've been fighting for days. i'm supposed to have a big chat with my parents this weekend and work on somethings...

anyone feel me?

That's hard Doodle, I feel for you. I know my family has the same concerns, but they are not vocal about it at all. Getting there is hard - but someday they are bound to see how happy you both are. The rest doesn't matter.

thanks for everyone's thoughts regarding my question. i'm really in a bind because we had recently been talking about moving to Austin, TX where my parents live...i love austin and feel it could be a good place for us to start our real lives...plus his mom and sister are in dallas! perfect we thought!

now my sister is saying that i should prepare myself for some of the family possibly never understanding and not being able to cope with the relationship...she said "don't be suprised if dad just can't deal and can't continue with his talks with you" and to piss me off even more she brought up the oprah show from the other day about interracial marriages...she said that at least 60% of the US has a problem with it. I asked her where she got that statistic....she said"shutup". THen she asked what henry does, what his brothers do...etc. and I told her "cook, nurse, construction". she said "and that's what a typical immigrant family does.." i'm so angry!

So much for austin...i'm so bummed. We can't decide where to move and we want to move by December. i don't know...

mindy, do your parents live near you?

and did you have a close relationship before Roy?

is being with a jamaican man totally out of the blue for your personality or had you dated men similar to him?

Doodle, i am so sorry to hear you are having problems with your family...My mom had a little problem with the interracial thing but she is Ok now...I have been dating outside my race for about 11 years now, so i guess they have gotten used to it. As for my dad, when we talk it is mostly about work and money, we dont talk much on a personal level, but mom does say that he is really concerned about Adrian coming here and not having a job, but then in the other hand he does say that I seem happier with Adrian then I have been with any other man I dated.

I know it is very hard when your parents dont except your relationship...I have been in relationships that my parents didnt agree with and I know it is difficult.

Hopefully in the future your parents will realize that you are happy and thats what matter the most. Good luck and I will be praying for you ;)

This must be a Dad thing - mine has been trying to find a job for Michael since he got here, he even asked a couple temp agencies about hiring him. He was especially obsessed after we told them about the baby. He just doesn't understand the whole EAD thing.

why not move to the dallas area?

I come from an "immigrant family". Both of my parents are born and raised Jamaicans. You may want to inform your sister that as long as someone makes an honest living, their vocation doesn't matter. And a nurse is a very respectable profession. My mother is an RN. Darah, I'm sorry about your families reaction to your marriage, but at the end of the day, if you and Henry are happy, that's all that matters. I wish you guys the best.

i know, i've thought about that...but quite frankly his sister is almost waiting for us to move somewhere becuase she wants to move where we go. i'm not a big dallas fan...and neither is she.

with all this going on, we don't have to go to Texas even, it just seemed sensible.

and a lot warmer
