Hey Everyone!

As you can see I am new to the site, I am really glad to have found it. please read me and my fiance story under OUR STORY.

I have a question for all you who have experience with the Kingston embassy. I am scheduled to go to Jamaica for an event in April, however I just found out they wont be scheduling interviews till May. I am trying to get advice on whether it is better to cancel going to this event I really want to go to and of course getting to spend time with my Boo or forgo it to spend a few days with him in May and go to the interview with him. Is the interview process tedious, Is it something he can do on his own? Do I really need to be there? Is it more difficult to get through somehow with me not there. AS YOU CAN SEE, my head is whirling with questions. Please give me your feedback, as you all have some experience.

Thanks

Tenika

I would definately go to the interview with him. YOU being there is the best "proof of relationship" that there is  Some of the couples who weren't there with their fiance didn't get approved right away or had some issues. It just seems more legit if the fiance (you) is there for the interview also. Just my opinion. So if you can do it, I would be there with him.

They force you to use vacation time??? I worked for GM for 13 years, I always collected unemployment and Sub pay. I never took a vacation. They closed the plant in 89.

Yes, my first year they gave me 10 vacation days and made me use 9 of them during the first two weeks in July! :o We didn't have to use one for the actual July 4th - just the other 9 days!!

Now I think I get 12 1/2 days and then I purchase 5 more so I have 17 1/2 altogether. Still gotta use 9 in July though. It sucks. I would rather be laid off for 2 weeks.

This must not be a UAW position.

Eric,

No, I'm not in the UAW - I'm a production supervisor. They have also changed the rules for the UAW though. Now the first week they are given holiday pay and the 2nd week they have to use their vacation time. It was something negotiated in the contract awhile back.

We had had model changes that had lasted 6-8 weeks, what would happen then? If I didn't take the buyout when they closed the plant in 89 I'd have 7 months till 30 and out, tell me they changed that too... Please...

No, they haven't changed it YET. It's still 30 and out for the UAW workers. But, I have heard that they are trying to change it.

I just got a call from Adrians friend (Ann Marie) where packet 3 was suppose to go...she went down to the embassy to pick up the packet for him but she did not know his birthdate and middle name so they gave her a hard time and would not give it to her...she said she will go back on Monday and try again.

Tenika -- Welcome!! I would say to go to the interview too. You are the best proof and it seems like there are far less problems when the USC attends. And PLEASE if you have ANY questions, ask away!!

Squitto -- Yeah!! That must just feel great!!! We have our Dr's appointment this afternoon for the Vac Sup then all I need is the Marriage Certificate. Then I am done. I have already filled out the envelope and certified mail receipts. Are you doing the AP? We're not...

Joanna -- That's so typical for the Embassy. Well, they will get the DS-230 today and she will go back on Monday....all is good

Joanna...it'll all work out. I remember when Henry fu@#ed up our 1st interview and i was sooo mad. He told me "he didn't feel good about it from the minute he woke up" and then when I got him a second interview just days later he said "today's the day" and it was! things have to fall into place when they are supposed to. we'll pray for you that this next phase goes fast

Yeah we're filing for AP simply because in NY, we hear it takes forever and a day to get your interview and we'd like to honeymoon in July after our big wedding. :D

I'm headed to to the PO now :dance::dance:

That's great Squitto  Now you just have to sit and wait for your NOA's for all 3 items then you don't really have to do anything else until the interview. It's a HUGE relief to have all of that done, I know

We got AP but we never actually used it. So I guess it was a waste of money, but I would hate for something to have happened to one of Tony's family and he couldn't go down there. All in all, from the time we filed for everything (AOS, AP, EAD) until he actually received the Green Card was about 8 months. We didn't go back to JA until 3 months after he got the GC.

I just got a call from Adrians friend (Ann Marie) where packet 3 was suppose to go...she went down to the embassy to pick up the packet for him but she did not know his birthdate and middle name so they gave her a hard time and would not give it to her...she said she will go back on Monday and try again.

Joanna,

Try not to stress out girl. You already sent the DS-230 so as soon as they get that they should be assigning you an interview date right? You'll get Packet 3 eventually, but you won't actually need anything in it yet since you already did the DS-230. I think the only thing we actually used out of the packet was the info. for the medical. I did ALL the forms on-line and had them done before Tony even picked up Packet 3. All we did was verify that they were all the same forms.

They didn't even issue Packet 4 when we went through the process. Is it just the interview date info?

I know Rhonda, thanks for trying to keep me calm...I guess it is just in my nature to stress, I really hate waiting for things, I am such a doer... I am the type that likes to get things done and I hate procrastinating (sp?), but with this I guess I have to wait.

My time will soon come.....Boy i am glad I have you guys that have been through this, I would be really freaked out if I was doing this by myself

I am checking Fedex tracking every hour, it left Miami at 6:33am so depending on how many stops they make it should be there this after noon.

I still cannot figure out this new site...some times my quotes turn out right and sometimes they dont??????

Joanna: Wow - you sound just like me  I was checking FedEx too... I just left it on my computer and hit refresh every other minute! The waiting is the worst. I feel like I'm waiting all over again, I'm so excited for you to get that interview date! And I can't believe the Embassy is so stingy with packet 3. What would REALLY happen if someone who didn't need one picked it up??! I just don't get it. But don't worry, we had so much trouble getting #3 that we didn't have it until about 1 week before our interview. Thanks to everyone here, I was able to know what was in it before we ever got it. ----In the meantime, you can busy yourself with the wedding, that's great you found some flexible places - I hope one of them is just what you're looking for.

Tenika: I agree with everyone else about the interview. I think it is so important for you to be there - it gives him support and the Embassy can see that support too. I truly believe it makes a BIG difference.

Squitto: Congrats  on getting AOS in the mail! You're on your way to the end now :D

Mindy: Have fun at the civil surgeon

Joanna -- Rhonda was right. The only thing you really need from Packet 3 is the medical info -- and that you can get from the Doctor. BUT, I would feel uncomfortable not having the actual Packet 3 just to make sure I knew what was in it.....this was the most frustrating for me. Even though I knew what was in it (and had a copy of it -- thank you, Julie!) I still didn't feel 100% confident until Roy got it. You know, the way the Embassy changes things you can never be too sure of anything.....

Packet 4 is only the letter. You need that for the medical (you have to present it to them) and for entry into the Embassy on the day of the Interview.

Darah -- I feel you!!!! My parents don't even know that we got married last week. My father refuses to acknowledge that Roy is even here -- hasn't met him (and doesn't want to), won't talk about him, nothing. My mother totally disapproves and thinks I am making the biggest mistake of my life. She brought up all the points that you mentioned. And every answer I gave her just made her more and more upset. She doesn't understand and to be honest with you, her main problem is that she doesn't want to understand.

I am just going on with my life because I am happy and that is all that matters!!!!

I am getting some problems with my family right now, but not major ones. Mostly they have heard stories of people from other countries who have married a US citizen solely for citizenship. Just stand strong, and in time your love for each other will break down any obstacles of criticism.

Thanks for all you guys input, I guess you are right, I will make sure I am there for his interview. His 1129-F approval expires in June 17, so I wouldnt want anything to go wrong in May.

Question:

I noticed many of my fiance forms given to him in Packet 3 is outdated, it is passed the expiration date. Where can I go to get a copy of them? also, If the forms are meant for him to fill out, can I still fill it out, if I just leave the signature part blank?

Thanks again everyone :D
