I mean it's not like they can deny you, you're walking up in their with your big belly :lol::lol:

:lol: :lol: :lol:

My thoughts exactly!!! :lol::lol:

Good Luck Julie and Michael!!!

I told him..."What ya think, I look up and tell God, give me a problem today, God, cuz I think I need one???"... :lol::lol:

:lol::lol: Jill, that's funny!

Come to think of it though....we DO ask for "problems" or euphemistically (is that a word?) "tests". I have learned not to ask God for patience - because how do you get patience?? From some :bonk: working your last nerve over and over. :yes: You learn it waiting in line for ages. You learn it from showing your assitant the same task over and over and over. I remember my sister praying for a raise. And two days letter her boss called her and said I need you to work four hours OT every night and every Saturday for the next four months. My sis was like :ranting: but she got all the cash she needed to build her deck, she just had to work for it. :lol::whistle:

Moral of my story: Be careful what you wish/pray for. :whistle:

Good Mornin to all.

Good luck Julie and Michael on the interview.

Elizabeth, I suppose I might have been asking for it, I pray all the time that he keeps us safe in that car and that he protects us from accidents. Never said a THING bout it breakin down.... :lol::lol:

Like I said, I didnt consider it that big a thing, altho I think its major work, the clutch went out. I dont even know how we made it back to the trailer, we drove like 200 miles that day and again the day before, so the fact we made it back without being stranded on the road was a miracle in and of itself. After it got there, poof, nothin! So...someone was watchin over us for sure. :thumbs::thumbs:

Tenika,

Menu Sounds good! :yes::thumbs: Just a suggestion - I think you should add some appetizers so they can munch while waiting for dinner to be served....people tend to get cranky. :D You can buy the super packs of cocktail beef or veggie patties. I remember my mom buying a box of 100 for a christening. They are tiny beef patties but same as regular JA patties. COSTCO also sells these little baby spinach pies - a tiny tiny quiche. Again I think 100 per box. Probably $25 a box. They taste really good. There are not a lot of JA appetizers - only we greedy Guyanese and Trinis have a lot of local appetizers in our menu. :lol:

I don't know your guests but there is bound to be a vegetarian in the mix so maybe a small vegetarian entree???

You are otherwise cooking with gas!! :thumbs:

Sounds yummy......now I'm really hungry :yes: Personally, I think it is great that everyone is doing the cooking -- that way it will all be made with love. That's really special and not everyone can do that. You are a very lucky lady (F)

Perhaps, its becuz its something that he FEELS like he SHOULD be the man about, and just doesnt know how to deal with things in this country like he would back home, and it makes him feel helpless and emasculated. Yea, that must be it.... :lol:

Seriously, this is very true :yes: They're not used to feeling "helpless" and not knowing where everything is, how to get there, what to do, etc.. I know it was really hard for Tony having to depend on me for everything when he first got here. We got him a bicycle and that seemed to help some. At least he could go up to the store or whatever without having to ask me to drive him there :blush: Try to be patient and understand where he's coming from. I know this is much easier said than done. Things will get better when he can start working. That's another huge blow to a man's self esteem - to feel like they can't contribute.

My belly is just growing... :lol: from all that damn Jamaican food -- I should just plaster the dumplings to my A@*and be done with it....

Roy and I were just talking about this. Gotta tell you, the bike was the best investment we ever made. He's mobile so that helped us tremendously.

So did him going to school. He is now in the summer semester and SOOOOOO excited because he's taking a computer class -- it's only and hour on Monday & Wednesday but it is something -- something he would NEVER be able to do in Jamaica.

Wow, I WISH he would have something like a potluck. His class everyone comes and goes and not the same peeps there at all every day and no one even introduced themselves or anything and they come and go at all hours. That is the social studies/science/reading/economics/history class on Mon and Wed that I told you the teachers are clueless and are not there half the time. He just goes in and sits and never speaks to anyone, its kinda sad. :( He even had one of the teachers give him a test today, and he answered deliberately wrong on one of the questions just to see if she knew her business, and she said...Yea, thats right! :dumbfounded look:

Now on the other hand, his MATH class teacher, I am real impressed by. I JUST found out yesterday :crying: that SHE teaches the other class (another reading/etc) in the afternoon. Lake really learns under her, she told me he has went up 2 1/2 grade levels in math in just one month! WHY oh WHY couldnt I have found out she does a class in the afternoon before this?. I called and asked 3 times if there was an afternoon class so he could attend full time for BOTH classes instead of only two days a week, and they told me that stupid morning one was the only one with the idiot teachers.... :really ticked off face: He could have gone 3 days a week and learned 3 times as much under her. I am NOT IMPRESSED with our local college provided GED classes for SURE!

I KNOW I had read they had classes provided at all times, so if you worked you could still go, but every time I asked bout it, I got the runaround. They have class 4 days a week, and they TOLD me they only had them in the morning, well the math clashed with the reading one, so we had him attending part time, two days for one and two for the other, so he was really only geting half the benefit. Thats why the teacher was so impressed with his progress, he has done better than anyone else in the class and THEY are attending 4 days a week! Grrrrrrr!

They are out for a month and half now for summer break. :(
