I'm feeling great. I MUST be lazier, I can't keep up with VJ anymore  I'm in the homestretch now - due on August 7th. I have a shower coming up so hopefully we'll get everything organized after that.

A picture  - yeah, I don't really have any. I just look fatter! So I've been avoiding the camera ;)

Julie~ how you feeling? You have got to post us a pregnancy picture...I bet you are ready to have that baby by now. When is your official due date?

Damn gas is $3.65 a gallon and it just went down today to that price......

I want to move to Rhonda's neck of the woods.........unless it snows where she lives....I am kinda spoiled with Cali weather....that is my only problem...thinking about Florida though......

Wow, I thought gas here was expensive! As of today it was $2.73 a gallon. That's a good question, since we have VJ members from all over the U.S. on here. What is the price of gas right now where you live???

As for my neck of the woods, yes, it snows here  I don't like it either, but I'm used to it. Luckily this winter wasn't too bad. It's just really cold from December until April :(

I got my heart!!!! (L)

Okay, nevermind....I got my heart a long time ago.....just me hallucinating again!! That's what happens when I try to do something without having a pot of coffee first

What was that movie when everyday the person woke up they forgot everything that happened before....yeah, that's me!!

i think that movie was groundhog's day

No, it was "50 First Dates" with Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore  I've seen it a bunch of times.

I have a question for the day: Do you discuss the happenings on VJ with your SO (fiance, boyfriend, husband)?

No  Once in awhile I might tell him something, but rarely. He doesn't like me talking about "his business" Or he tells me I chat too much!

Ok Ladies I have been thinking about this a lot...I know most people won't be comfortable coming out and saying how much they make per year but I am SOOOOO curious because in my mind I make very little but I don't know how that really compares to people around the US. Plus with all the talk of buying houses and such it makes me think you all are rich  Even if Andre and I went on a "Squitto" plan we wouldn't have the money to buy a house for about 20 years or so it seems...

Anyways to get to the point...I set up a yahoo poll about finances...that way it is anonymous. If y'all don't mind I would love for you to vote.

Thanks :luv:

Jamie,

As long as you have a small sum of money saved for a down payment and you have decent credit, it's not that hard to buy a house. You figure the average mortgage is 30 years, so your payments would be broken up to 12 payments a year for 30 years. So generally the monthly payment isn't that high. And at least in the end, you have something to show for it. When you rent an apartment, it's like you're just throwing your money away. I think buying a house is a GREAT investment for anyone. Keep your head up - you can do it

Yes......both Rhonda and Elizabeth gave some great advice. I bought my 2 bedroom condo 7 years ago for about $249,000 and it recently appraised for $780,000. I still live paycheck to paycheck but it was the best investment I ever made. I can't wait for the day that I sell this place and buy a BIG house in Jamaica and some other property investments in other areas of the US. This condo is my future nest egg......I will never be able to buy a house in this area because house prices in the Bay Area are just ridiculous........My 10 year plan includes.....moving out of this area!!!! Damn gas is $3.65 a gallon and it just went down today to that price......

So......save that $5.00 or invest in a 401k......and keep up that credit or work on fixing it if you have some past dings.......it will really go along way in getting you in a house........and think about a possible area that you can afford........I want to move to Rhonda's neck of the woods.........unless it snows where she lives....I am kinda spoiled with Cali weather....that is my only problem...thinking about Florida though......

I remember when I bought my first house 3 years ago it was real cheap since I lived in a farm town in IL. I bought a 3 bedroom 1 1/2 bath for 122,000 dollars. It was huge 1800 square feet and a half finished basement. I only lived there a year and a half. I sold it for 11 thousand more than I bought it. I broke even so that means I didn't threw away my money in rent. When I bought such a big house all my neighbors were amazed because I was the young chick on the block. I then moved a little closer to Chicago so of course house prices were a little higher. With the money I saved on my first house I could afford a little higher cost house. My first house was 100 miles outside Chicago and now I am 60 miles away. So I bought a 2 bedroom 2 1/2 bath condo for 160,000 thousand dollars. It doesn't have as much space so I had to get rid of a lot of things. I stored a lot of furniture at my granny's house. I got all my furniture for free at a little good will type of store and my family.

I agree if you want to buy a house invest. If you can pay yourself 100 dollars a month and don't put all your money towards debt. I pay my debt little by little and it didn't hurt my credit store. My first years out of college I survived without a cell phone, cable, and keep the heat way low. I had a tiny apartment for 400 a month. So I saved like mad. I invested in Charles Shwab account. Has anyone seen Shwab ads on TV. I invested in 2 stocks and made money some. You don't need a lot to put down. I still really live pay check to pay check now a days. It is tough paying for my condo but in the long run it should pay off. I

Best wishes on saving you will be able to do it! believe in yourself.. :D

Jax

Good morning Ladies,

hope everyone is doing great on this beautiful blessed day.

I just found out that my classmate from Jamaica was murdered in Jamaica a few weeks ago ( the guy that was killed for his cell phone- stupid razor phones).

Have a blessed day everyone.

Sorry to hear that ... That is very sad over a phone...

I know many of you have done the whole resort thing, so I'm interested in some reviews.

I'm interested in going to Negril (since Squito's never been and I've only been there once when I was like 11). Can any of you recommend any good hotels/resorts in Negril??

Me and Tony usually stay in Ochi, but we stayed in Negril one time for 2 weeks. I loved it! 7 Mile Beach is just awesome. There are lots of hotels and resorts. We stayed at Fun Holiday for the first week and Bourbon Beach the second week. Both very cheap but still decent. If you go to an All-Inclusive Resort, I don't know if you guys will like the food. The couple that I have been to serve very "Americanized" food. No Jamiacan fare to be found. You may be better off staying at a nice hotel and then going out for your meals.

Everyday Squito's like "Yuh tek yuh tablet yet?":lol::lol: hahaha we have them placed on the nightstand so we can't forget :thumbs:

Ha, Ha.... :P

I think Duane and Squito got that line from the same place.....he says the same thing to me...." Baby, yuh tek yuh pill yet?"....... :P:P

:lol: Dwain is the opposite he ask me every night if I have stopped taking the pill. I think he is crazy  He wants a baby first thing when he comes up and go to school.. Foolish man. I told his mom and she was so excited. I told her it may not happen we only have 2 weeks togther. Then I told my mom she said are you guys crazy hehe. Dwain suggested this not me but I am falling in love with my niece. He asked me this afternoon what I thought I said lets go for it and he was all happy. Werid he is almost 4 years younger than me...

Congrats to Dee and Dave on your interview date, dont worry, it'll be a snap!

Marsha, so sorry to hear your troubles and worries. Yea, I was just venting and actually I got soooo mad and it was about something that I have vented about on here before. My man just WONT say what he wants to do. Its always "Whatever YOU want to do". I asked him if he wanted to go to the river this weekend. He said..."whatever you want to do", so I asked "Yea, but what do YOU want to do" and I get "I want to do whatever you want to do"...ok, well I let that pass....then...I was TRYING to do something I know he likes, and have fun, I know he hasnt had much fun lately...and he loves this Chinese buffet we have, so after class, I asked him.."How bout we go the the Chinese buffet tonite, that sound good?" and I get the same ol thing..."Whatever you want to do.." Dagnabbit, then I started crying and got upset and it went from there...he NEVER says what he likes, and he is THE MOST opinionated man I ever met so why cant he voice it????

Its ok now, we argued, we laughed, we went out to eat and are over it...but ....urrrrghhhh!

Jamie I loved your story bout the Walmart dishware!

I have a question for the day: Do you discuss the happenings on VJ with your SO (fiance, boyfriend, husband)?

I keep Squito fully abreast of what goes on day to day. He practically knows you all. I always like to get his angle on the different topics that we discuss. I try to see all sides of a situation so getting his Jamaican male POV really helps. I feel like the chick from American pie with her constant preface, "At band camp..." Everyday I'm like, "Today on the Visa board....":lol::lol::lol::lol:

Only a few times have discussed what happens on the site but we don't have a lot of time to talk. Maybe when he gets here we will. He did say once ask the ladies on VJ I don't know what to do. Thats what I love you gals helping me because he does not have a clue about some things.

oh yeah, our case got touched this morning.:dance: The additional evidence for the RFE was received on 5/17 and the touch showed up online today (and Elizabeth, fyi I only check it once yesterday  )

Congrats!!

Can any of you ladies get in touch with your/husband's family?

Yeah Andre calls them all the time and I usually say Hi and chat occasionally. He talks to his grandmother and his brothers and he calls friends. His mom is here illegally in the US  and is staying all over the place so we wait for her to call us as her number is always changing.

I love talking to Andre's grandma (she raised him) She loves me so much and is always telling me how much she appreciates me taking care of Andre. She calls me "my girl" (L) It always makes me feel good to talk to her :luv:

I talk to Dwain's mom once a week. She loves to talk. I also have to come up with an exuse to get her off the phone. I think she is lonely. She just moved outside of Mo Bay and Dwain moved out last August for the first time. She is a new house that is not complete yet. I can't beleive she lived with out electricity for months. She has a cell phone sometime the connection is not clear. I talk to Dwain everyday like twice a day. IDT Global card loves me. Thank goodness its 10cents a minute..

Thank yo all for the well wishes, crime in Jamaica is just ridiculous. Thinking the government knows this they would speed up the process of getting fiance(e)/spouses here...don't hurt to hope/wish.

Yes the crime down there is crazy. Dwain scared me a few months ago when the taxi he was riding in was robbed. He said he had the gone in his back. The robber shot his friend in the foot and took the car making them stranded. When he called I knew something was up. They took all his pay for the week and his friends. I want him here soon... It is just so sad these things have to happen.

Hi Ladies,

I have to agree w/Elizabeth...I make over $40K a year and I'm struggling living paycheck to paycheck. Some may say it's a lot but at the end of the day I'm lucky if I can find a $1... I live in a nice two bedroom and the rent is $1000 a month not including utilies (heat, gas, & light) plus I'm a single mother so YOU KNOW how that goes. I say pay yourself first too...I never did and I was ALWAYS depressed and weak b/c the bills were paid and no food in the fridge. Now I'm totally opposite (w/the help of my 2nd job in the past of course) I buy food first and pay bills 2nd. W/o food you have strength and anything else for that matter. I was looking into buying a house but my area it starts at $350,000+ my little income can't do all that so maybe in another 10 yrs or so. I'm VERY frugal, very very very!!! I don't play that but I do participate in 401K. Here at Walgreens they give you $3.25 for every $1 you put in up to 3% per pay check, so YOU KNOW I couldn't pay that up. My motto is live for tomorrow not today I know some may not agree but I have seen it in action and trust me it makes perfect sense. Always try to save for the future b/c that' when you need it the most.

Hi Nyseness

I agree thats why I don't live in the Chicago area at all. The teaching jobs may make 10 to 20 thousand more but I never could get a house. Thats why I choose to live further outside of the city and burbs. I loved Elmhurst but a small house is like 350,000 and they are tearing those houses down and making bigger more expensive ones. I do make the average pay of a person living in IL. I did have the oppurtunity to teach in a Chi burb but turned it down. I don't understand how anyone can afford the Chi area.

Ms. S - most hotels in Mobay are sold out during the sumfest, I believe. We're going the last three days of the Sumfest - the best nights Dancehall and International nights. go to reggaesumfest.com when you get a chance.

I wish I could go to sum fest :crying: Dwain might be playing at the fest and he can't take care of me that time. I can't go alone he says either.. Have double the fun for me!! So when he said no I applied to work this summer. bummed out.. Then I asked if I could go to the ATI party with him in Negril for the 2 days he sad no also... man because its his bachlor party. darn.. I want to party.. guess I will have to do that in Chi town  Maybe someday I can go to sumfest.. Can I go in your suitcase hehehe

I have a quick question....have you noticed a few new folks that show up on the bottom...they poke around but never post anything? I've notice a few new people but never say nothing. I wonder who they are? And what's their deal? I know this is an open forum, but curious as to how they found us, why they don't post anything, and what are they reading???

Things that make you go hmmmmmm???

I have a quick question....have you noticed a few new folks that show up on the bottom...they poke around but never post anything? I've notice a few new people but never say nothing. I wonder who they are? And what's their deal? I know this is an open forum, but curious as to how they found us, why they don't post anything, and what are they reading???

Things that make you go hmmmmmm???

(F) B) Hi, I 'm one of the lukers. I absorb all the great information for my K-3 process. Enjoy all the comic relief (especially ray, ray ray). Commiserate with all the frustrations, angst and other problems. I am quite a bit older than most of you. Way past baby making age. Wish you all happiness and generally just try to endure this journey. (L)

welcome!! :D
