Good morning and Happy Friday!!! :dance::dance:

For the east coast get together? What are you all doing memorial weekend? Just putting some feelers out as I know Anna will be in NYC from Chicago during that time. :thumbs:

Hey everyone,

I've noticed several people referring to the GED. Are your fiances/husbands taking the GED even if they graduated from high school in Jamaica? Or are they getting GED's b/c they will not recognize his diploma/certificate for jobs or other schools? I'm just curious. We can't get a social security # until he is approved to work and I don't know whether or not he needs to be researching the GED too.

Any thoughts would be appreciated!

My husband wants to go to university here (changing majors) and his transcript has to be reviewed, as there is a possibility that not all of this classes will receive credits here in the States. Instead of waiting for JA school to send them, he decided to do GED>

Also, I feel it will be easier for him to get work with the US GED (even though he has JA education) because so many jobs are requiring at least a GED to work - it's showing initiative and it's better to have something on his resume (schooling) than just a big gap between his working dates in JA and (finally) getting hired here. It would be all bad if he got denied work because of not having one.

Just my two cents :whistle:

Mine too, except that by hubby dropped out so he needs it to get in school. I'm sure he'll be able to get a job without it but he plans to go to a trade school, and most require it.

ditto

Well...Good news...... :dance::dance::dance:

I called today and our case arrived at NVC......they said they assigned a case number and my case is being forwarded to Kingston!!!!! Yippy!!!!

We are one step closer now!! I will call the embassy Monday to confirm receipt so that Duane can go pick up packet 3 and drop off DS230. I am hoping they will schedule my appointment soon. I will be in Jamaica the last 2 weeks in June so I pray they will give me an appointment when I am there! :whistle:

Thanks Joanna for the talk.....it really put things into perspective for me!! I hope Adrian arrived safe....

Hey Birthday girl.......Miss Kelly!!!! I hope you had a GRRRRRREAT Birthday!!!!

Yay!!! Congratulations :luv:

Well Adrians flight outta Kingston was delayed and he arrived at JFK around 12:20am...(he was suppose to be there 10:10pm) he said the flight was real real rough and some guy on the plane kept yelling "PLEASE PLEASE LET THIS PLANE STAY IN THE AIR, OH MY GOD OH MY GOD..." :lol::lol: I would have been so scared I hate turbulance

...I just got off the phone with him and he is checking into the hotel...so alls good for right now.

I am going back to bed.

Goodnight or shal I say good morning :whistle:

WELCOME HOME ADRIAN!!! :dance::dance::dance:

ditto again! :thumbs:

do jamaican nationals need a visa to go to Mexico???

Kelly, maybe you can answer this question

The answer is yes and no. No you do not need a visa, but you need a stamped (by the consul general in NYC) tourist card. And to get a tourist card, you have to fill out a visa application. :whistle: The consulate is on 39th betw Madison and Park Ave South. THERE IS ALWAYS A LINE ALL THE WAY DOWN THE BLOCK. Here is the website link.

Well hello everyone,

Adrian recieved his visa around 3pm today and then headed for the air port for his flight at 5:30pm....talk about cutting it close....Last time I spoke with him he was on the way to the airport and he would call when he reached JFK 10:10 tonight....I just pray that he got on the flight safely....since his other flight was canceled that was that was suppose to leave this morning (thank goodness it got canceled) AirJamaica is paying for him a hotel room at JFK and he will fly outta JFK tomorrow around 12pm.

I am feeling much better now....I am the main recruiter for my job and there is a huge business expo this weekend at the convention center, I was suppose to work it but since Adrian was going to be here I was not going to ( I am kind of a control freak and wanted to be there for the Expo)...so I left it in the hands of the other recruiter, I called her earlier and she was heading to the convention center to set up so I met her and helped out and I am going to work the expo tomorrow till about 3pm and then go pick up Adrian....It helped so much to get back to some normal stuff and do some work..it got my mind off things.

I am doing better now thanks for everyones well wishes (not to say i might not freak out again) but I know ya'll are there for me......THANKS

Jamie - so sorry to hear of you loss...you and Andre will be in my prayers

Welcome home, Adrian :dance: :dance: ....We've been waiting for you!!!!!

He just thinks he will be bored if he can't work or go to school right away. Can you start taking classes for the GED right away?? Or maybe he can study the GED books I got him and take the test that way. hmmm I wonder if it will be hard for him.
Going to school has been the BEST thing for Roy during his "waiting" time. This is the one thing that I would recommend everyone look into. I don't know about anywhere else but Roy goes to a Community College and it is free, you don't need a SS number (or anything else) to go. The registration is only your name, address & phone number.
Bigup to hypeTV but where are the movies and the TV shows???

Right now it's only videos.....

I just watched last night's episode of LOST again, so I am all clear on the beginning
Oh yeah, now I remember everything....:lol::blush:

Yeah, I checked and they said to have the SSN. The only way they'll accept something else is if you are only here temporarily and will never be issued a SSN. If his EAD were approved then we could apply for the SSN then. However, since we have our AOS interview next month I don't know if they're going to approve the EAD or AP. I hope so b/c we're hoping to go back to JA in early July.
