Thanks everyone for all the kind words, thoughts, prayers and encouragement :luv:

He was very much a father figure for both of us so it is an extremely hard loss.

I think the hardest part of it all is that this is the first time that it has really hit Andre that he is not there. Obviously he knows he is here and all but its the first time he was ever like "wow...I am not there and I should be." He is adjusting fine here and really starting to enjoy things but when we found out this happened I think the guilt of leaving his friends, family and community really came to the surface. I know it is a difficult time for him, for us both, and I am being as supportive and encouraging as I can...but its so hard when all he wants to do "is go home where he should be" :crying:

Good Morning (F)

I hate to kill the mood so early in the morning but we got some bad news last night. Our beloved pastor in Jamaica died. He was the one who took Andre in and trained him up in church, his son and Andre are the best of friends. This is also the man who took me in and allowed me to stay in his home for months at a time and watched out for me. He taught me the ways of Jamaica and the ways of God. I was baptized in his church and truly came to know God through this man and his preaching. He had been sick for many years with strokes and other ailments but no one saw this coming...he had been hanging on for so long.

To make things even harder on his family (he has 11 children) one of his daughters and her husband gave birth to their first baby only hours after he was gone. So if you could all please say a prayer for their family and the community as well as Andre and myself. It is really hard to go through this 3,000 miles away and as much as we would like to go down for the funeral we don't have the funds nor does Andre have his greencard. Thanks in advance for the prayers...I know they will be powerful (L)

Jamie

Jamie, so sorry to hear of your loss. I am just catching up.

Hey Lee,

Yes things seem to be moving along know, but I just know things are going to go sour real soon.

How is your day going?

Hope you enjoing everything to the fullest ( you know what I mean):thumbs:(F)(L)

I do not wish to share any information about this dead end journey.........I have reached my final destination on this train, and it is time for me to get off.

THIS TOO SHALL PASS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"If marriage means you fell in love, does divorce mean you climbed out?"

"You never really know a man until you have divorced him."-Zsa Zsa Gabor

"When a man hath taken a wife, and married her, and it come to pass that she find no favour in his eyes, because he hath found some uncleanness in her: then let him write her a bill of divorcement, and give it in her hand, and send her out of his house. And when she is departed out of his house, she may go and be another man's wife." Deuteronomy 24:1-2

"When you get to the end of your rope, tie a knot and hang on." - Franklin D. Roosevelt

"When one door of happiness closes, another opens; but often we look so long at the closed door that we do not see the one which has been opened for us." - Helen Keller

"Even though you may want to move forward in your life, you may have one foot on the brakes. In order to be free, we must learn how to let go. Release the hurt. Release the fear. :) Any one know any site where I could get some good Jamaican recipies. Like the one with the Cocounut fish dee made? I would appreciate it :

Try www.caribbeanfoodemporium.com or www.eatjamaica.com

My mom makes the best red snapper run down...here is an online recipe:

http://www.citytv.com/vancouver/RedSnapperRundown.aspx

What's a good side dish.??

the fat part of me says boiled yam, sweet potato and/or some other root. the part of me that wants to eat more veggies says: steamed broccoli, cauliflower, zuchinni - i have had it both ways and while the root starches are more comforting - the veggies once they are not too soft work well. Henry has also done rice and gungo peas as a side.

Speaking of peas, I need a recipe for Bajan doved peas.

I'm liking the fat part of ya. I'm tired of boiled yam tho....I'm going with the caloloo if I can find it, if not spinach... and rice and peas from one of the site you recommended

I'll be back..got to make hubby breakfast...I cannot believe what I've become :lol:

I know what you mean ;)

I ordered hype TV last night, they will be here to install it tomorrow
Dave is going to be sooooo happy!!! Believe me, this has saved us!!!

:yes: HypeTV is a lifesaver indeed

It was delivered -USCIS got the I129F :dance::dance:

Congrats :dance::dance:

My girl Danielle won on ANTM( america's next top model)

Trust me I almost started dancing when Jade was a goner..and what a witch...no hugs just a "peace out" seems like a sore loser to me. I was happy when Danielle won. Based on some of the comments from the judges I thought for sure Joanie had it.

Oh guess what Guys??? Henry got his first paycheck last night!!!! I was sooo excited! It came at the right time and we do need it. So we are giving thanks!! The best part was seeing the deduction for his pension!! It's like you are preparing for the future. We had a great talk about his idiot relatives that are working under the table and bragging about their take home being big. eeediots! I explained that they do not have benefits, they don't have a pension plan and he does. So I encouraged not to get obsessed with all the deductions an taxes, just focus on taking care of his family and building a nest egg.

Thats great  Andre is getting his check tomorrow...he can't wait. I like how you explained the deductions and everything...I will definitely have that talk with Andre tomorrow. Thanks for the insight

Mindy - LOL at Roy's dream. But usually you dream about fish so when starts dreaming that you are cooking fish....look out!

Fish dreams! I remember going to JA church one day and a woman coming up to all the young girls (single and married) and telling us that she has been dreaming of fish for days...WHO IS IT? I was so confused until Andre explained it to me. When that happened the lady was so serious she was a little scary. Sure enough though one of the teenagers in the church was pregnant out of wedlock and gave birth 7.5 months later  Coincidence?!?! ;)

You are very blessed, remember though you are their little girl and they are not going to be as easy forgiving as you are to your hubby...somethings they should not know...This is not a easy process, I take that back most things they should not know...I learned that the hard way  These are just my opinions. I hope that I did not offend you in anyway (F) DEE

Joanna, I have to agree w/ Dee on this. Sometimes we must discern what and what not to share with people, even our parents and those that are very close to us. :yes:Some info should be given on a need to know basis...

Very good advice  I have been guilty of sharing too much and it usually turns out bad

Besides I told him. rice in America is a side dish not a Main meal  . It is beyond me how he pile up his plate with enough rice for everyone and then add some meat in the midst of the moutian of rice. :o

:lol::lol:

On a serious note - I think the whole rice thing is a "vestige of slavery and indentured servitude" - it was much cheaper to feed plantation workers with a ton of rice and a few scraps of meat. The diets were heavy on the starch. Rice is cheap! One cup raw can feed three or four once cooked. If you are trying to feed a big family you just load up on the rice...so now even though we have many other options, its like our palette DNA.

It's like American soul food (the meat portions of which I still can't get into)....if you analyze it - they were given the worst part of the animals - intestines, tails, jaws, feet - the worst tasting greens that grow by the wayside and....starch! readily available, cheap starch! It's all we were "worthy of" back then. But as with all things, we have turned punishment into love, soul and delicacy. People learned to love it and jazz it up.

But I feel you on the mountain of rice...I have been asked "what's up with that?" by many Americans and Germans.

Tell me about this ebay drop off store. Will they list the items for you and give a percentage of the sale? I have so much stuff I've been holding on to but haven't had the time to list anything in a long time.

Yes its like on consignment. you drop it off, they use their fancy software, and knowlege of what sells for what and list your items and once sold they take a cut. There are many different franchises - isoldit, sold it on ebay, quickdrop etc. Look them up in your area yellow pages. I would pass out if I had to list all those things myself - esp the books and CDs/DVDs.

I am such a DORK -- I can't remember anything anymore. I have been racking my brain trying to figure it out and I just can't remember. I don't think it was anything earth-shattering. They kept going back in time to show you what happened in the hours/days leading up to the present. I'm sorry, I'm just blanking....I also can't remember if I deleted it or not. If I didn't, I will post back to you when I get home. With the way things have been going lately, I will remember at 2:30 in the morning.....don't worry, if I do I will come on-line immediately!!

I'm the perfect person to tell secrets to......I'll never tell anyone because I WON'T REMEMBER what you told me!!!:blink:
