ok so to give a little more update on the whole mew check...

my lawyer e-maile me back and this is what he said

Hi Shuana,

This shouldn't affect you at all. I have not heard or received any notice that they would recall all approved K1 visa's. It hasn't come up on my radar yet.

then he called me and we talked and he said he called and checked the USCIS page top to bottom and couldn't find anything...so I hope this won't happen..i think i would just cry

From what I have been reading it seems to have affected a lot of people.

I hope what your lawyer said is true...but let me warn you...most lawyers don't know much and they will tell you whatever you want to hear to keep you quiet. I have heard it numerous times here on VJ and have personal first hand experience  Just be prepared for anything...the visa journey is heartless sometimes.

check out THIS thread.

I also called visa services here and they said it there are no changes in Caribbean countries, not yet anyway. But who knows because I think USCIS and the State Department have communication problems.

Well hopefully that is true. I just saw a girl have her fiance's interview cancelled 3 days before it was to take place and he is from Israel. Someone made a good point in the thread that the law is for USC MEN and foreign WOMEN yet they were affected. Doesn't make any sense.

Hey Shemanya~ You work for the DOS right? I know you don't work in the visa section but I was just curious what it would take to work as an immigration officer? What kind of training/schooling? Do you know if it pays good? I was joking around with someone that I should become an IO after all this and they asked me some of those questions and got me thinking. Do you (or anyone else) have any idea?

It's funny you asked because we were just hiring for visa specialists here in DC - civil service. I remember seeing one of the qualifications was knowledge of Immigration laws. I'm sure we all qualify. The grades were low so they were probably training positions. I can try to get a copy of the announcement. Some positions start off GS-7 which starts off 36,671 and can go up to GS -12 - 84,559.

Counselor officers (who interviewed us in Kingston) are mostly foreign service officers which you have to take an entry test to join. It's only given once a year. It's extensive training and travelling because you'll move every two to three years to different Embassies. You have to learn the language of the country in most posts. Most people love the foreign service because you basically live overseas for free. The government will provide housing, childcare or schooling for your children and even hire your spouse.

I believe the best way to come in is civil service. There are opportunities to live overseas if you want. One of my friends is going to Trinidad for two years as a secretary. Let me know if you want more information.

Oh yeah - Immigration officers (people who work for USCIS) are hired through Department of Homeland Security. Go to their website.

Well Shauna......I found a few new bits of info.......Seems the USCIS and embassy's are having trouble communicating and they are cancelling everyone's appointment until they get more info. You shoudl call Kingston tomorrow to see if you have been assigned an appointment date yet.

For now, the Carribean Islands are not being scrutinized but who knows how long it will take them to start. They are following the March 6 date so unfortunately, your case falls into that time frame. Keep your head up girl.........it may only be a short delay and I am in the boat so I know just how you feel!!!! :(

I spent an hour trying to get through to Kingston today....no luck.......Anyone have a good number or know how to navigate through the phone tree to get an actual person on the phone??????? Shauna and I need your help ladies!!!!!! :help:

Rhonda...Dose Tony really like working for your parents???

He doesn't work for my parents. He works for my cousin's husband who owns his own company. He doesnt' seem to mind it at all. His goal is to buy his own truck and then he and another guy will work independently but still work under my cousin's license. He will get a small cut of the money, but Tony could make more money with his own truck.

Squito and I live on a rollercoaster. One day we're way up and things are great, and the very next we sink deeply into anger frustration and finger pointing. We're such extremists. I guess when you love hard, you fight hard.

Oh my gosh, this sounds just like me and Tony  It's either really good or really bad
