GC Interview 1/29

Hi there,

Just want to start by saying thank the community for all your help.

My question this time around is I have an interview on the 29th of January. I have a flight out of this country Feb 7th. I also have an i-131 which allows me to leave. If I get approved on the 29th, what happens between the that approval date and me getting my green card? (I heard it takes 2 weeks, which is longer than my planned departure date) Is my 131 still active? It does say Dec. 31st 2013 as expiration.

Next, if I receive the bad news of a rejection, what happens? Is my 131 immediately invalid?

Wow...why did you purchase the tickets so close to the outcome? Or maybe you did it way before you knew the interview date? Anyhow, I heard that once you get the NOA paper form, you can use that as your "Green card" as it is a proof of permanent residency until your actual card does not arrive. Good luck!

You can travel with the I-131 after green card approval, as long as you subsequently travel again within 12 months of your reentry, and use the green card that second time.

ask them to stamp ur passport as a temporary measure.

Yea I bought my tickets before I knew my interview date.

I will ask them to stamp my passport, so hopefully it will be all okay.

I was in a similar situation. After the interview, I asked the IO if he would stamp my passport since I was leaving the country before 30 days from the interview. He did but only for 3 months. I didn't have any issues coming back on the I-551 stamp but did have to go through secondary.

If they say you're approved, get the stamp on your passport and you're good.
