Senior CAIR employee Randall Todd Royer, a/k/a “Ismail” Royer, pled guilty and was sentenced to twenty years in prison for participating in a network of militant jihadists centered in Northern Virginia. He admitted to aiding and abetting three persons who sought training in a terrorist camp in Pakistan for the purpose of waging jihad against American troops in Afghanistan. Royer’s illegal actions occurred while he was employed with CAIR.

CAIR's Director of Community Relations, Bassem Khafagi , was arrested by the United States due to his ties with a terror-financing front group. Khafagi pled guilty to charges of visa and bank fraud, and agreed to be deported to Egypt. Khafagi’s illegal actions occurred while he was employed by CAIR.

On December 18, 2002, Ghassan Elashi, founding board member of CAIR-Texas, a founder of the Holy Land Foundation, and a brother-in-law of Musa Abu Marzook , was arrested by the United States and charged with, among other things, making false statements on export declarations, dealing in the property of a designated terrorist organization, conspiracy and money laundering. Ghassan Elashi committed his crimes while working at CAIR, and was found Guilty.

CAIR Board Member Imam Siraj Wahaj, an un-indicted co-conspirator in the first World Trade Center bombing, has called for replacing the American government with an Islamic caliphate, and warned that America will crumble unless it accepts Islam.

Rabih Haddad served as a CAIR Fundraiser. Haddad was co-founder of the Global Relief Foundation (“GRF”). GRF was designated by the US Treasury Department for financing the Al Qaida and other terrorist organizations and its assets were frozen by the US Government on December 14, 2001.

Because I said that involvement in a Muslim-American organisation is no reason not to elect him and you said "you gotta be kidding". Maybe I'm inferring something that is not there?

Secondly that quote comes from a supposed article that is from Daniel Pipes, a well known muslim hater, site. I googled the article and the only source for it came from Daniel Pipes and other anti-islamic sites such as "answering-islam, etc. so as far as I'm concerned it's bogus.

That said, it's not because I like him, but because he's not his opponent. He is not particularly articulate, so nobody is sure what to expect. But c'mon VJ, stop being the judgemental pricks you were born to be and read a newspaper.

I'm not surprised this thread has gone completely downhill. It started off pretty badly too.

Why can't we just act like civilized human beings, accept that the Democrats won this round, and move on? Whining about it will do Republicans as much good as it did Democrats to whine about Bush's election to office in 2000 (or even 2004). I realize some people feel the need to vent, but isn't this getting just a little carried away?

There's been a lot of hyperbole, name-calling, and ridiculousness going on in this thread. Just because the Democrats have won, it doesn't mean that suddenly the U.S. will be wide-open to attack from Islamic terrorists. This is their home too, and I'm sure -- if for no other reasons than purely selfish ones -- they don't want to live in a nuclear wasteland.

Honestly, I think both parties are full of corruption, and that neither one is inherently better than the other. If it makes Republicans feel any better, they still control the Senate (by an extremely slim margin), and there's still a Republican president sitting in the oval office for the next two years.

I may be more towards the center (agreeing with liberals on certain issues and agreeing with conservatives on others) than some here, so maybe this midterm election doesn't faze me quite that much. I see the Republicans as having done a rather poor job recently. It's in my opinion that they lost sight of their core values, party platform, and roots. Maybe this loss will shake the Republican Party up a little, and wake them up. If not, then in 2008, they could be in for a rude surprise.
