Greetings,

I have a quick question. I got my bachelor's degree and then master's afterwards. As soon as I finished master's I got OPT. I never applied for OPT after bachelor's.

Now I am going back to school to obtain another bachelor's degree. Can I apply for OPT upon receiving that degree?

Thank you so much.

Thanks for the answer. DSO said i was fine, but I read somewhere on the internet that it is not allowed.

If DSO and I fill out an application and send it in, do they make a decision or do they automatically send OPT? In other words, do they look into the case or do they go by DSO's judgement?

No, they actually research the application. A lot of people apply for OPT who are not qualified

good luck

You will not get the OPT time for the previous bach degree but you will be able to get another OPT after your 2nd bach degree.

Yes they look at the documentation before giving OPT, what would make you think all the application are just granted OPT?

What makes you think that I will get OPT for the 2nd bach degree?

I did quite a bit research and opinions seem to be conflicted. It looks like some officials believe that once you get an OPT for master's, you can only get it again if you do a PhD, while others believe that if you haven't gotten a bachelor's OPT, and you go and get another bachelor's, you can get OPT again.

I suppose logical thinking is that if you can get one OPT per one degree level, going back and getting a bachelor's after master's would grant you that second OPT (if not used with previous bachelor's)?

I have no idea how the process works. My school official did the application for me the first time, so I assumed that if school official green lights it, DHS doesn't look into it too much.

DHS does look into it seriously.

As far as I was aware it was once per degree, thats how it was explained to me when I grad but that has been some years now and rules might have changed.
