Hi fellow VJ members,

My fiance and I are happy to report that we had our interview for K-1 on 1/17/13 and we were approved. Thank goodness! :dance:

We are really glad that this process is over, it was very hard and stressful for both of us. But we made it and you guys will too, I have no doubt.

My fiance is still waiting for his passport and visa from AIT in Taiwan. Now my question is about this new fee of $165. Do we have to pay this? He will not be coming into the U.S. until mid February, so does this fee apply to us? Technically, we were approved before this fee went into effect. I don't believe the CO mentioned anything to him about this new fee. If it applies to us, then of course, we will just take care of it as to avoid hassle later on.

Any advice on this is very much appreciated!

I think I found my answer...if you receive your visa after 2/1/13 then you have to pay. So I think we're safe.

K-1s don't have to pay the $165 fee. That's for CR-1/IR-1 visas (aka immigrant visas) to pay for green card production.

Part One: The K-1 Visa Journey:

USCIS Receipt of I-129F: January 24, 2012 | Petition Approval: June 15, 2012 (No RFEs)
Interview: October 24, 2012 - Review | Visa Delivered: October 31, 2012



Part Two: Entry and Adjusting Status:

POE: November 18, 2012 (at SFO) - Review
Wedding: December 1, 2012 | Social Security: New cards received on December 7, 2012.
AOS Package (I-485/I-765/I-131) NOA1: February 19, 2013 | Biometrics Appt.: March 18, 2013
AP/EAD Approved: April 29, 2013 | Card Received: May 6, 2013 | AOS Interview Appt.: May 16, 2013 - Approved Review Card Received: May 24, 2013
