Please how can I get someone who knows about the internet and how to retrieve deleted mails and also if it is possible to use someone's email address to send bad emails to people. It seems my old and closed email account was used to write bad emails to people and I am being asked questions I don't know anything about.

Thank you.

dont know about closed email accounts but i know hackers can get into your account and do whatever. just inform the people asking that your account was hacked into and you have no idea who used it to send the emails.

I have informed them a million and one times but there are just some coincidences that makes it unbelievable, so I have all but resigned my fate to whatever, I know I didn't write the emails though, that's all I have.

Thanks for your help and God bless.

Often times, closing an email does not "close" an email.

Many email services can "reactive" an account if you give the correct information.

Basically, the only thing that would happen when you closed your account is that you wouldn't be able to RECEIVE email.

But if it were resurrected, then voila, send more emails.

At least that's the way it used to work with Yahoo back in the 90's

Log into the email you previously had and change the password if you can get in.

The thing about email accounts is that Email servers do not validate that the originator's email is a valid account. They only care that the recipients email account is valid for delivery. With a simple program I could send emails as the President, and no email server would blink an eye at that.

But that does not mean that the email cannot be traced back to the original account. If you look at the complete header of the email, you can identify the originator.

It kind of depends on how the source server is set up. The server I run does not allow spoofed sending addresses. Unless a challenge response system is set up on the receiving server, they generally don't care if the sending email address is valid, although some verify the domain is valid. Spammers, virus writers have long used legit email addresses of people to send their spam and viruses. The entire email system was originally set up with the idea that all people using it where honest. Therefore adding security to the system today has been difficult to do without breaking the basic protocol.

If you've deleted emails on your own computer, and cleared your trash bin, you can't retrieve them again. Some servers keep backups for a certain period of time, but unless you know the operator of the server, you're not going to get them. They're generally kept for cover your butt legal action or server failures, rather than for user's usage. And getting to them is a lot of work they're probably not going to want to do for free. And that's only if they keep backups.

Someone mentioned attempting to regain control of the email address. That might work if someone was actually using your old account on that server. But if someone is just faking your old address, there essentially is nothing you can do, unless you can find out the source and complain to the provider that is allowing this user to forge your email address. Although if you no longer own the email address, the provider may not consider it forgery. But most providers will shut down a user who forges the identity of another person, if that person proves it. You'll need the headers of the sent emails to figure out where they're being sent from.
