K3 sent to "Special Department" - Congressman told

Hi All,

On your advice earlier, I had contacted my congressman to pursue my long-delayed K3 application for my wife with the USCIS.

On his inquiry, the congressman was told by the USCIS that my wife's case has been sent to a "special department" and that the USCIS does not have any information on how long it will take that "special department". There was no mention of the department's name, or why the case was sent there. I am following up with the congressman to request more information, but this is really frustrating and confusing.

Is this the FBI name check? Has anyone else experience something similar for a wife's petition? I know there were additional checks for alien husbands, but is there something similar for women applicants as well?

Any information you can share on this will really help us understand our case. Thanks in advance!

Sounds like they are doing further security and name checks, and who knows how long that can take.

A little soon for you to be writing your senator don't you think? Neither of your NOA1 dates are even 90 days. Have you called the USCIS yet? Just wondering.
