My fiancee is currently here in the states on a valid K1 visa. We are planning to be married in about two weeks. We are a bit confused about what we need to do with her passport. One issue is that the pages of the passport have become unbound from the cover, so we have been told we need to get it replaced. But since we are getting married and a name change is coming for her we would have to get it replaced anyway correct? So then I check the Philippine embassy website and now I have even more questions. It says on the website that she has to actually appear at a consulate in person in order to get a new one. Really? We actually have to travel to a consulate for this? Does anyone have experience with this? Also the website says that to apply for a new passport she has to prove that she is not seeking residency (green card) in the US. What? That is exactly what we will be doing with the AOS process. Really confused here and would be very grateful for any insight. Thanks in advance for any guidance.

Hello. Does it really look bad that the biopage is totally messed? I'm not sure but someone told me before to get it replaced because it has a single crease in it in the biopage. It scared the hell out of me because I didnt want to be deported back to the Philippines. Though I trusted my instincts and didnt replace it with a new one because its just a fold(a big one though). But everything turned out okay in the end and wasnt questioned at the airport or anything.Maybe you should post the picture of her passport so that everyone can see how bad it is.. sorry im a bit confused.

She won't need that passport again unless she travels back to the Philippines. She will have to show it to the USCIS during any interviews up until she she becomes a US citizen, as a record of entry and exits from the US. Yes, you do have to make a personal appearance at one of the Filipino consulates in the US, or at one of the outreach events in your area. The passports used to be sewn together with heavy white thread, so that they could add additional pages if necessary, so whip out the sewing kit if yours is like that.

if an emergency comes up that so you can't travel to the phillppines because her passport has been damaged.even if you get your green card you will still need a passport to travel, try to get a new one. you still may need the passport down the road with other forms, until the time come to apply for your citizenship and u.s passport,
