advice for certified translator in Guayaquil, Ecuador

I did a search here in the forums and found someone who posted a link to a pdf file from the us consulate and the link was broken, I went to the website and tried searching there and could not find a list of approved translators. Can anyone tell me where I can locate a translator in Guayaquil.

Brother Wade -- what are you trying to get translated? If it's stuff for USCIS, then you might be able to do it yourself, with use of the translator's certification.

You might also contact U.S. Citizen Services at the consulado and see who they recommend. If you're physically there and walk in, you might meet some other gringos who could perform the translation and give you a signed certification statement.

Look through the classified ads in the newspaper (on-line) and find some translators who work with legal documents. That's how she found one once, when she needed a translation. The people who advertise are almost always legitimate.

Thanks man! I just got back from Ecuador a little over two weeks ago. I was busy with many things and never got around to finding a translator yet. I was told that all of my fiancees documents will need to be translated into English. I thought that only a translator approved by the consulate could do that? I do not know where i heard that from but maybe it is misinformation. She will need to get her health records, ie: vaccines and medical exam translated right? How about her birth certificate? What do you and Mrs. T-B do?

Who told you -- someone at the consulate? If her documents are in Spanish, no translations are necessary for the consulate. (Conversely, for the USCIS petition, translations are required.)

Any translator can be used, including yourselves -- see the "translator's certification" on this website.

If the consulate grants the visa, it might be helpful to have translations of the medical/health stuff, but that's at your discretion.

When we submitted our USCIS stuff, we got it translated in the States and sent to my dad's house so he could just send it directly out. It was cheaper and easier than getting it done here, which we did once for something I needed for my Ecuadorian residency. If you get the list of translators from the consulate, do NOT go to the woman who lives in Urdesa, GYE. Her name is Ximena Levy, and not only is she ridiculously expensive (she wanted to charge us over 100$ for half a page), but she's absolutely nuts. She kept us there for half an hour talking about how said she gets everytime people come into her life for translations and then she never sees them again, and asked us to PLEASE keep in touch and let her know how our lives are going. Extremely bizarre experience. Just do as Tbone says and do it yourself. Much simpler.

Every time I called the USCIS, asked me if I wanted a Spanish line. Certainly somebody at the USCIS can speak and read Spanish if they offer such a line.

Wife and I did our own translations, she the Spanish part, I for proper grammar and syntax for the English language without changing the context. Each is attached to the original document. Recall one of the major changes was using the American date format instead of that Spanish one.

Wife was watching that Chavez funeral thing on that CNN Spanish channel yesterday. When she heard how that translator when Rev. Jackson gave his speech, commented that she should be fired.

We had no problems with the USCIS.
