Hi everyone,

I had my AOS interview (from overstay F1) today and it went well. :star:

The interview was scheduled 8:30am in Garden City, NY. We were 50 minutes early, hand in our NOA, and wait at the back. My name was called around 8:15 and we went upstairs to a small and stuffy waiting room, just to wait some more.

My name was called again about an hour later, it’s show time. The officer interviewed us has a very small voice, so I had to ask her to repeat several times. It went very fast, 10 minutes, 15 tops. She asked my husband questions while asking me to give her the document she wants to see, kind of confusing.:blink: My husband said she’s not having a good day but I didn’t feel that from her.

The questions I was asked:

What’s ur birthday?

How long did u stay in NZ? (I was there before coming to the States)

What status did u use to enter US? (F1)

When did u graduate?

What school, major?

Did u travel after married?

And all those questions like have u smuggle drugs or aliens in or out of the country, criminal record, prostitution …

Do you have a joined account? How much total? How much is yours?

Does ur husband have a job? How much did he earn last year?

And to my husband:

Is this ur first petition?

Have u been here with someone else before?

How long do u know her?

Why marry her?

Have u meet her parents?

Why aren’t they at ur wedding?

How long have u been in the States? (He was a green card holder for 15 years)

Did you come to US with ur parents? (yes)

Is this ur first marriage? (no)

What happened with last one? And grilled him a lot more questions one after another

When she found out he was from Tennessee, she asked him how long did he stayed there, which school he went to… (Excuse me? Is he applying PR or me?)

We were asked to show his citizenship, divorce paper, marriage paper, photos, my passport, took I94, took 1 photo, and all joined document. She didn’t ask for my EAD and AP.

After she took our joined document, she said to me: Your case is being reviewed, if you have time, you can wait downstairs and if you are approved and ur name check cleared, we will stamp ur passport and give it back to you. If your name check is not cleared, you have to go home and wait for 90 days. So we went downstairs thinking why she didn’t approve us right on the spot, but apparently many people did the same (we saw a lot of people in front or behind us waiting). We waited another hour to get my stamped passport, and I was told I will receive my green card in 5 weeks, and apply for removing condition in 2 years. One thing I didn’t know is that the 2 year anniversary means 2 years after I got approved not 2 years after our marriage (we’ve married for more than 1 year).

I am glad that I found this site at the beginning, everyone here is so helpful. Even though I didn’t post anything before, I want to share my experiences to people who’s starting. We didn’t use a lawyer after talking to a few on the phone, one said our case is straight forward, the other said she’s not sure if I can apply… (huh?)

And please don’t complain about my English.
