Presuming your fiancee is coming with a K-1 visa, after you get married you can file for her Adjustment of Status with the USCIS. You must get married within 90 days of her arrival and although there is no deadline to apply for AOS, the sooner you do it, the better off you are.

At any point after her arrival you can take her to the SSA office in your area and apply for a SS card.

In other words, once she lands in the US, the embassy where she obtained her K-1 is no longer invovled in the process. You will need to initiate the next steps with the USCIS, stateside.

Congrats and good luck!

According to your timeline you have not had her interview yet. Therefore no visa yet. If this is accurate, you have a few steps to go before she gets here.Once this is finished and she has her visa, then she can come here, you get married in the 90 days as required. You can file for a SSN after about 2 weeks. For this you need to go to the SS office and fill out a very simple form and get your card in the mail a few weeks later. Then you file for her AOS.

She interviewed at her embassy and was approved she will be here next week im very nervous. i need to update that timeline. Do I have to marry first and fill the adjustment of status form before going to the ss office to fill out her ssn form?

thanks for your kind responses

It takes about 2 weeks for the SS department to have their files updated from USCIS. After that you can get a SS number. It's really very simple. Some people do it before they are married and some after. It really does not matter. You cannot file for AOS until after you are married. No need to get nervous about this.

No need to notify them. They will find out when you send the certified marriage certificate with her AOS documents.

and how does she apply for her ssn?

Fill out the form and take it to the local SSA office. Do a Google search.

do they send it to the house automatically after we marry?

Nope.

No. She needs a work permit or greencard to work.

You file for the work permit when you file for the greencard so she can work while she's waiting.

It will take 60-90 days to get the work permit AFTER filing the adjustment of status paperwork (together with the work permit or travel document).
