You're neglecting to tell us why Vermont is safe then. Guns make it safe. Your prison (where all guns are outlawed and the ban is agressively enforced) comparison is too flawed to be considered by people with functional brains. That is why it has never been presented even by anti-gun people. You certainly do not want to point to a gun free society with HIGH crime as an example of how gun laws reduce crime. Well, YOU do, but intelligent people on both sides of this issue do not.

However, I can point to a low crime society with virtually non existant gun laws as an example of why a lack of gun laws reduces crime. I choose that position and let you have yours. I will not argue your position.

Societies with NO GUNS and agressively enforced gun bans have HIGH crime. You win.

Tell us why Vermont has low crime if it is not because of guns.

Why don't you try an experiment to prove your point. Everyone in Vermont give up their guns for a year and see what happens to the crime rate.

We all know and have demonstrated time after time that violent crimes have nothing to do with the number of guns and everything to do with the number of violent people. Guns are used to protect good people from violent people and gun bans prevent good people from protecting themselves from violent people.

If that is wacko then simply call your congressman and request that federal buildings and federal employees and federal police be put under a gun ban to increase their safety. Call your mayor and ask that the sheriff and city police be put under a gun ban because you feel that fewer guns on the street will make you safer. If you are not ready to do that then maybe you're the wacko huh?

If your logic is sound then tell me, why are there gun bans in bad neighborhood states? I stay on a military base, I don't need to feel safer, but where I am from, I know that more guns won't solve the problem. But I can't argue on here about that, because all you see is guns protect good people from bad people, but what about those who can't carry guns? Like Heaven Sutton, or the other 270 school children that lost their lives to gun violence over the last 3 years in Chicago. She was selling candy and snow cones in front of her house when she was hit by a stray bullet. How would you solve that, give her a gun? She was 7 years old. What could she do? Did you know that 144 soldiers were killed last year in Afghanistan, but 228 were killed in Chicago, many were school house children and teenagers. What would you suggest, arm kids as young as 5, maybe that will stop the drive by shootings and gang related deaths. Because you and someone else on here really believe arming everyone will reduce the crime.

I believe if you reach out and deal with the drugs, gangs and poverty, you could reduce this senseless violence and work to build a better community. Because what you and those who think like you don't get is this, the drug dealers and gang bangers don't care if you are packing or not, they have guns too and aren't afraid to use them.

I think it is proof that law abiding gun owners are not a danger.

Adam Lanza's mother was no danger. Yet the weapons that she afforded her sicko offspring access to sure were a damn danger, weren't they? They're all time bombs. Fed by the firearms of law abiding gun owners. They're all ticking away. It's not a question whether the next one of these time bombs will go off, it's just a question of when and where and what the extent of the carnage will be.

Well you screamed about big fonts and you never said you supported an assault weapons ban. Then you said you did not say you would not support it.

So do you support it or don't you.. Real simple question.

I gave a real simple answer to that real simple question probably on a million different occasions. I do and always have supported an assault weapons ban. I am not now nor have I ever been able to identify even one remotely valid purpose that an assault weapon serves in civilian hands. Not one.

Now, in terms of addressing the gun insanity in this country, an assault weapons ban ranks not very high on my priority list. Ensuring universal background checks for any and all acquisitions of firearms is what is more urgently needed. This is the point we agree on - there aren't many but this is one where we do agree.

Is that simple and clear enough now?

Well i really enjoy target shooting. is that a purpose. You can go further.. Handguns have no real purpose either. The are for one purpose only. Ban them also. ?? Handguns are used in 75% of gun crime.. why ban a weapon that is used less than knives. ?

I am not for a gun ban because we have proven the bad guys will still get guns no matter what. And I and not for arming everyone in sight because in most of the crime riddled cities, all you will do is add to the death toll.

well not sure how you keep the guns in the good guys hands but I do think 100% background check, and making straw buying a big crime. Also make having a gun if you should not have one a one way trip to the can.

As for lists. They scare me, based on what just happened.

If your logic is sound then tell me - what are you doing on that base with all those guns? Shouldn't you reach out and deal with the nazis or jihadists and work together to build better communities? Wouldnt that stop violence on a much grander scale than one city?

Please demonstrate this for us. Otherwise you guys on base who nickname your guns and take care of them on a level that you take care of family members know full well that gun can save your friggin life where no talk, no reaching out, and no hope for building better communities ever would.

This thread has degenerated into a bickering exchange of personal attacks, insults and baiting posts. I have removed a great many and edited some others so that the acceptable comments can remain. I planned on thread banning a number of posters for their continued poor behaviour and repeated TOS violations, but since the problem is so systemic, I am just going to close this thread to further discussion.
