My wife is here on a k 1 visa... We arrived on november 29th, and got married on january 6th... We applied for her social security card 3 weeks ago. The office told us 7-10 days to recieve it... It still hasn't arrived... I called social security office and the lady said it could take up to 9 weeks for a non citizen to recieve it since it has to go through homeland security... I am hoping that the lady on the other end of the phone didnt understand that my wife is here on a K 1 and that we didnt just get married here without going through the K1 procedures....

Has anyone else had the SS card/number take more than 2-3 weeks to recieve?

We are all ready to send in our AOS, EAD, and AP paperwork.... Cand we send in EAD w out ss # and provide it later when it arrives? The clock is ticking and my Wife wants to work badly!

Thanks in advance for any help/ advice!

You don't need a SSN for any of the applications, it is just asking in case you already have one, just put "None".

My wife applied for her card on a Thursday and it was in our mailbox on Monday (2 business days later) so I think you might want to visit the office. They can usually give you the nuber even before the card is printed. Good Luck.

My husband received his in less than 2 weeks, and the woman had even told us that they had to do a manual check for him because he wasn't in the system yet. Personally I'd call them again to check on it.

El destino me ha unido a vos.

My wife applied for her SSN when she got the Employment Authorization Card. They said it would take up to 2 weeks for it to come into the mail. But it only took us 5 days to get her SSN in the mail. Just in time for the interview on thursday for my wife's green card.
