Hi there,

Has anyone filing with the London IVU had experience sending their DS-230 part 1 separately, ahead of their DS-2001? I ask because my husband and I are still in the process of getting all of our supporting documents together for the DS-2001, but we would love to keep the process moving. So the only thing we can do at this stage is send the DS-230 part 1.

Is it okay to send this separately? Or would folks recommend waiting and then sending it together with the DS-2001 and cover letter?

We could also get the medical done now (finally got the case number!), but is it okay to do this before sending the DS-2001 in?

Thanks for any guidance!

I don't see why you can't have your medical before sending in ds2001. Maybe someone else could comment?

I would send ds230 part 1 & ds2001 together. That's what we're doing.

Yes, it's actually what London intends for you to do-- get your application in ASAP, then gather your documents and have a medical exam, then lastly and separately let them know (DS-2001) you have all your ducks in a row.

Excellent. I will proceed to sending the DS-230 pt 1 and then schedule the medical. It is so nice to be able to DO something again, rather than just sit around waiting.

Btw, your fiancé to citizen costs seem quite high. Did you hire an attorney? Or is this just what the total looks like after all the document requests, application fees, transport to interviews, postage, etc?

No, we did not have an attorney. I kept a spreadsheet and entered anything relating to immigration... Form fees, priority mail fees, medical exam, transportation to London twice, hotel night before interview, marriage license, and a large chunk for shipping and insuring a lot of boxes to the US. In 2008, the exchange rate was 2 :1, so my conversions of UK expenses to US dollars was higher because of the prevailing rate. Example: 200 GBP medical exam went on the sheet as $400. And also K1s have to file adjustment of status which is over $1000. You won't have that fee.
